Keyboard Reccomendations

Well, my recent experience with keyboards got me thinking that I should have a few spares around, just in case. What I'd like to know is what keyboards specifically are very high quality and good for games like descent, etc. Please provide links to specific keyboards, perferrably availible at newegg.com.

I can't tell you what's good, but based on the keyboards we had at the college, I can tell you that Belkin keyboards are very bad.

Personally, I really like the Dell ones. I'm not sure who manufactures them for Dell, however, maybe Logitech? The Microsoft one I had was too "spongy" for me.

Hm. These look useable. However I am disappointed that they only offer one keyboard that doesnt utilize a non-L shaped enter key. I hate the big L-Shaped ones, cause they usually put the \ key where the other half of the backspace key is. I cant use half sized backspace keys. Maybe I'll get two of the one that doesnt have an L-Enter key. Anyone know if this thing uses mylar sheeting or actual switches?

yeah, I was going to say, the only thing I hate about this is the poor positioning of the \ and backspace keys, due to the crappy big enter key. But it's *very* responsive.

I have several Logitech keyboards, they are reliable, have a nice feel to them, and are cheap. I take em to LAN parties all the time. here

My main keyboard at home is a Microsoft Natural Multimedia Keyboard, but its more expensive. These are pretty durable too, although I've never taken one to a LAN. here

Keytronic LT CLASSIC II-B (B = Black)

I purchased a few of them for $29 each(average price 25-35)

We also have a few Descenter converts, who have gone to this keyboard after speaking with me...they will NOT switch back to any other MFG now

I also have the Keytronic Designer (different Enter, Backspace, and Backslash/Pipe keys) which was my temp replacement for about 2 years until I decided to go back to the classic. So i have been using keytronic for about 6 years and they havent changed a thing about them except for extra colors available. and you know what the best is ..more than 3 simultaneous key presses at the same time.

What Lothar said ... I have had excellent luck with my three E03600QLPS2-C units (One at home, 2 at work).

Plus, being a keyboard/mouser, I find that most keyboards don't support more than two key presses in the same area of the keyboard at a time. That's a problem when trying to tri-chord. This keyboard doesn't suffer ffrom that problem.

If I can find my keypress test software, I'll post it. It's basically a little .exe file that tells you what keys it's detecting are pressed. Since Drak is a mouser with all of her slides and rolls in the same part of the keyboard (meaning she'd need 4-5 simultaneous keypresses sometimes) we needed a KB that could handle several keypresses. We tested this Keytronic KB (I can't find the model number) and didn't find a single conflict with her Descent controls -- she could trichord in any direction, roll, and change weapons or fire flares all at once.

I'm pretty sold on keytronic.

My logitech wireless keyboard supports atleast six combinations. I could probably check it to see if it'll recognize more, but why bother? The Lite-On ergonomic KB I had before would allow five at once. However, the keytronic KB I had back in my 486 days.....I lost count as to how many keys it could take at once. I still have that keyboard btw. Every system I've built had a keytronic KB with it.

Ya, Keytronic rocks ... 99% of the other keyboard manufacturers cut corners by making their wire matrix less dense (to save money). They end up screwing kbd/mousers ...
