DDR Ram question

Post by Topher »

I'm looking to upgrade my computer a bit. I'm going to go with the ATI 9800 Pro, found a pretty good deal for the retail version (no HL2 sticker though :( ) Later I may upgrade the CPU. But while I was at it, I figured I could shell out some cash for more ram. Right now I'm running 512 meg PC2100. I have one other slot open.

Are there any issues with me running 2 PC2100 sticks? I don't recall exactly, but I remember hearing some rumors about two DDR sticks cause more crashes or something?

What about running a 512m and a 1g side by side?

Check your MB manual. You may just need to put the bigger stick in a certain slot. I have yet to hear anything about 2 PC2100 sticks. I'm running 2 512's at the moment on my P4B533 with no problems.

I have 1 stick of 512 and 1 stick of 128 in mine, both pc 2100, and haven't had any trouble at all. Put the largest stick in slot #1 and it should work fine.

You shouldn't have any problems man. Just make sure you have the largest stick in slot 1 (or slot 0, depending on how its labeled) and you're golden. Hell, I've got two PC2700 sticks running in dual channel mode right now and I've yet to notice any stability issues.
