Holder does something good!

Post by Will Robinson »

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has banned state and local police from using federal law to seize money and property without evidence that a crime was committed, according to a Friday story in the Washington Post. A Department of Justice program called Equitable sharing had been used by local and state police forces to seize and keep up to 80% of assets.
Not often I get to say 'Yay! for team Obama'

I guess it's a bitter sweet celebration though since the Fed can still do it? (Haven't read the details yet)

tip of the hat, Will. :)

not sure the Feds can do it, by the way, without a court judgement(generally drug, racketeering or tax cases)

You do realize Holder is on his way out now? Don't celebrate too early.

you really think his successor would differ, and still be chosen by Obama?

No. I was just pointing out that Will's sudden newfound love for Holder will be short lived. :P

"Civil asset forfeiture" will still exist unfortunately- seems that state and city police may find a way to do it without the 'Federal program.'

Not sure how much weight this 'ban' from Holder will carry with them.

Hey now! Just because we all know Holder is likely to go back to his old ways is no reason to poop on his thread. This might be the only nut that blind squirrel finds! Let him have his celebration :D
