so what? This sort of thing has been going on before, with both Muslim and other groups. Remember the antiquities destroyed in Afghanistan, and desceration by Hindus of sacred Buddist sites? What is the big deal to you? Planning a visit, were we?

while I'll concede that TB is trying to hammer ISIS with his post, that comment is down right stupid. SO WHAT??callmeslick wrote:so what?

seriously....did you really give Syrian antiquities a moment's thought in the last 10 years? We've lost Iraqi, Syrian, Eqyptian, Armenian, Afghan, Italian, Greek and other antiquities, art and the like in my lifetime. Are we supposed to intervene risking American lives every time it happens? So what?

Just watched the movie "Monuments Men". Made me hate the Nazis even more, especially the ones that deliberately burned and destroyed priceless art as they retreated from the allies. Destroying antiquities is not something trivial. That art can never be replaced. Even the U.S. thought it was important enough to try and save all that art from theft or destruction by the Germans when they withdrew from France and Italy.

This discussion always reminds me of a scene from Tank Police.
