Can't get web pages to update.

Post by De Rigueur »

Never seen this before. Some of the news sites (Fox, Drudge, etc) I frequent won't refresh. They are stuck on last Tuesday of Wednesday. I tried turning of Norton, rebooting, and deleting cookies and internet cache. Still nothing but yesterday's news. Same thing happens with IE and mozilla.
Has time stopped and I just don't know it?
Any ideas on how to fix this?

In the IE options menu, there's an option under "Temporary Internet Files Settings" that allows you to select how often IE checks for updated versions of web pages. I doubt it will help, but it's an idea. Also, did you completely clear the browser history?

Maybe your ISP is caching the webpages, since you say it happens with both Mozilla and IE. Do you have another computer that you can use to see if the problem is on your PC or on your ISP's end?

The problem is only on my pc. I think I know what happened - I accidently changed the system date to next week and didn't notice it for a couple of days. So something is doing a date compare and concluding that a cached page with a (bogus) date of 6/20 is newer than a page with date 6/10. I've been deleting every cache file I can find, but haven't fixed the problem. It probably has something to do with earthlink accelerator.
