this whole flap over flying the 'Confederate Flag', which was never the official flag of the Confederacy(it was the battle flag used by my ancestors in the Army of Northern Virginia) is senseless. Any cursory glance at the modern usage of that flag reveals that it has been a racist symbol, resuscitated by the Klan in the 1890s, and plonked down on statehouse grounds around the South in the 1960s in response to desegregation and the Civil Rights Act. Take the freaking thing down, as it serves utterly no purpose, has no historical significance outside of Virginia, and offends people on State Property.
Gee, Haley, did anyone suggest you would be?

Racism is the second thing I think about. The first is the Dukes of Hazard. Probably because I'm a Yankee.

Rich old white male not offended by symbol considered offensive to black people. Film at 11!

I guess when “getting guns” pretty much fails, you need something to feel good about. (and yes, this is nothing more than a feel good kind of thing)
And don’t get me wrong, I think those flags should have come down years ago, or never been put up in the first place, but that is only a personal opinion, I also have to support the right of morons to be morons.
We all scream people have the right to offend others, when we agree with something, but when we don’t…look out. (Pissed Christ, for example, is surly a piece of art designed to offend people) The flying on public property, is a different issue, and I would have agree on that.
Yes those flags should come down, but for the right reasons, not just knee jerk reactionary feel goodness.
Damn good thing he wasn’t waving around the American flag.

Yep. They were thumbing their noses at the Civil Rights Movement on 1962. Nothing like showing your support and disdain for Federal policy by hoisting a old controversial battle flag that symbolizes your historical desire to enslave and brutalize of a whole race of humans because you think you have the states rights to do so. They need to move forward and quit worshiping the travesties and evils of the past. It's long dead and it should stay dead.callmeslick wrote:http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/ ... ar-AAbZEuK
