I've been suggesting this process has been going on for a while. It goes beyond Trump, beyond Cruz, beyond Boehner. There are two very distinct factions in the GOP and they openly despise one another. A far milder split in the Dems gave us Reagan. The GOP might come out the other side of this intact, and cohesive again, but I wonder how, exactly. This is not the sort of vitriol that gets papered over by common opposition to, say a Clinton or Sanders or Biden. At all.

Well, I get the impression the party bosses of the Democratic Party are trying to distance themselves from way left Bernie Sanders, even though he's going up in the polls. Both parties have their "ick" factions that the mainstream members would like to distance themselves from and wall off in another room. By the way, it's about time Boehner got a spine too. Good for him.

there is always a split between the more left-wing branch of the Dems and the more moderate wing(which Obama represents). Only time it really got to a dangerous point was in 1980, and since then, they've largely gotten behind the nominee. Some will claim the Greens pulled enough votes to lose 2000 for Gore, but I'm not in that camp.
