You can be sure this won't be the last you hear of 'sharia law' on American soil. So long as there are adherents to the "religion" of islam in America, sharia law will continue to be attempted.

This radical group of Muslims is not pleased with the Mayor of Irving, Texas after she put the end to America’s first “Sharia Court.” Mayor Beth Van Duyne has accused mosque leaders of creating separate laws for Muslims, which is why the city voted to stop these supposedly “voluntary” tribunals from operating.

In a very close 5-4 vote, the city of Irving ruled to back the Texas state bill banning foreign law from the state. The bill doesn’t mention Sharia or any religion, but it’s a huge defeat for Sharia supporters, as such courts are in violation of the U.S. Constitution.

The danger this precedent that a Muslim can not actually abandon the proceedings in the Sharia court, otherwise it would be called an apostate. Even if a secular court will decide in his favor, he would still have a lot of trouble among relatives.

Suppose a group of baptists decided to create their own "community courts" and laws where baptist women that had abortions were tried and punished in their own homes by their own ministers and families.

Would a mayor that stood up against them doing this be sending just as 'dumb' a message?

that vote reflects the fact that the 'court' in question didn't deal with anything of real legal substance, essentially like a church tribunal(which we have all over the nation). As noted, another bit of 'creeping Sharia' hysteria, at the core utter nonsense.
