The Russian government has been pretty lax about where and how much of some of it's old nuclear material is being managed and stored. It could be old medical waste, old uranium processing waste, weapons processing waste or even experimental lab waste. All any waste has to contain to be a significant problem for humans is contain enough radioactive isotopes, like iodine, cesium, or whatever type of residual nuclear products happen to be lying around, to contaminate a large area if it were incorporated into a conventional high explosive, a dirty bomb.

please, Sigma, quit dodging the issue. Obviously, they were talking about highly radioactive isotopes and you either ought to grasp that fact, or just drop out of the discussion now. As one with two Chemistry-related degrees, I grasp the concept of multiple unstable isotopes. But that's beside the point. Russia has been careless with it's nuclear materials. Do you remember this story from 2011 sigma? Smugglers got a hold of some definitely Russian high grade, enriched Uranium-235, very radioactive and the authorities said it was enough to even make a real nuclear bomb. All this smuggling has been going on for quite a while too it appears. How long before some of this Russian nuclear material gets into the wrong hands? Moldova seems to be the center of nuclear material smuggling attempts.
