Why not? Trump has aided Democratic interests in the past and he's widely acknowledged as the one who made it possible for a liberal victory in 2006 and the subsequent creation of Obamacare. He might just pick up a few Dems who dislike both Hillary and Sanders.

Also, pertinent to your original point, Webb isn't happening, but Bloomberg IS threatening to enter, but ONLY if Hillary and Trump are the nominees. Now, that would be interesting.
