Well, I’m not advocating a mandatory national ID, I’m suggesting that the federal government can make ID available to those who need it for various reasons, and it would be good for everything anybody needs ID for.

So if a state tries to make it hard for you, or denies a particular type of ID people have a reasonable recourse.

At the moment in a few Republican states, some people don't have a recourse. This is one of those issues that both parties need to come to a consensus on, so that things can be fair for everyone. Fat lot of good of that actually happening at the moment. Right now, it's called screw over the other party instead.

And just how do those people have not recourse in Rep. states? Why are not the Dems taking it to court or offering to help those people get the ID?

This matter is complicated. Right now, Voter ID is a patchwork of different policies being implemented at the state level, not the federal one. The Supreme Court has ruled some parts of Voter ID programs as unconstitutional but there is no sweeping legislation regulating it. Each state has its own Voter ID opposition and court battles are being fought. Eventually we might come to an agreement at the federal level. A report by Jimmy Carter and former Secretary of State Baker generally agreed with Voter ID implementation and recommended Voter ID laws to be rolled out slowly over several years accompanied by programs that ensured high-risk citizens were able to access suitable identification. Naturally, this hasn't happened because who the ★■◆● listens to Carter even though he's right most of the time?

tunnelcat wrote:That's right Ferno. You want to drive a vehicle, it's a privilege that requires a photo ID and testing. You want to vote in certain Republican states, it's now a privilege since those voters now have to get a photo ID and pay for it (poll tax) when they have difficulties obtaining one.
Up here in Sane country, we wouldn't even dream of entertaining the notion of voter ID. We have our own system that works -- you live long enough in a place, you get a card that tells you where to vote. And even if you don't, election day is all over the news so that you can go and register using any form of ID, and even a utility bill if you don't have what they ask for.

Yea, as they keep everyone focused on dead people, who will always raise a flag, the actual way fraud is done never gets talked about, and I guess that is a good thing, considering how brain dead easy it really is.

if you are referring absentee ballots in many states, yes it is, and one party is quite good at leveraging them.

The method I’m aware of doesn’t rely on mail in ballots, but there is no reason they couldn’t be used.

oh, Spidey, they are used for that, and have been for about a decade and a half. Florida's GOP is a flagrant offender.
