Most of the Muslims I've dealt with around here make great food and are nice neighbors. You're categorizing a whole faith as a bunch of murderers based on the actions of their radical fringe. I could just a easily categorize all Christians as hating all Jews because they were responsible for the murder of Jesus. If I used the actions of the radical fringes of Christianity around the world as an example, who typically vocally despise Jews and gays and would think nothing of murdering them, my logic would be just as valid as yours if I claimed that ALL Christians are taught that way, so that's why they're evil.

The soldier in question is under arrest, and will go through the court system. This is big news here at the moment with varying opinions on the matter, constantly on the news and much discussed today down at the beach with ex-army friends over a few beers. I hope he will be made an example of if proven guilty. I'd be surprised if it would raise an eyebrow if a similar event happened in parts nearby or even in the good old USA.

not based on that quote. He clearly doesn't grasp how the organization of the religion is related to the fact you can literally THOUSANDS of proclamations and dictates(fatwah), most in complete conflict with one another and all claiming some sort of Koranic support someplace. That is why it is so utterly ludicrous to try and paint Muslims with any sort of broad brush. There are very few core tenets.
