Saxaphones

Post by woodchip »

At one time I was taking Sax. lessons but then quit. This was years ago. Getting the urge to try again. My question is about the quality of the chines sax like the Mendini brand I see on the internet. Reading the reviews on Amazon I'm at a loss to decide on buying them as many of the review posts are diametrically opposite as to quality. I'm wondering if anyone here has purchased a Chinese saxophone and if so, what do you think of them? Just learning so no need for a pro model.

Yeah, I know that but I'm interested in the build quality of the horns in the 200.00 range.

I'm with fliptw. Anything built in China is going to be either junk, or made with cheap, thin, poorly machined, adulterated metals that will turn your hands green and sound like a cat being strangled. But check out this list of good saxes if you're serious.

I'm not sure of the prices for antique saxes, but you could look into those too.

Uesed sax's can be pricey and then there is a cost to have someone go through and tune them.

woody, you get what you pay for. You just want to mess around and don't care what you sound like, cheap will work. After all, you're just practicing. You want to get serious, only expensive will do. But you may want to read this guy's review on Chinese Alto Saxophones. The Chinese are improving. The price is still pretty gnarly at $315 though and that was back in 2006. What is it you want to spend? Work from there.

The way you canceled that last chess game weeks ago, I thought you were in a big heap of trouble.

Maybe you should take up the saxophone along with woody and play as a duet. It would be relaxing. :P

I broke my last phone. Again. I got a new one. I should install that chess game again.

Thanks for the link TC. The review led me to this which seems the majority of the reviews were positive other than a new mouth piece may be required.:

and demos playing the brand:
