Baton Rouge

Post by callmeslick »

....this would seem, at a glance, to provide a glimpse for all the folks who have said for years that the 2nd Amendment serves for the citizenry to overthrow a tyrannical government. This is what overthrow of oppressive government really looks like. Cops are, if nothing else, the front line of government, serving the public who government represents. Determining what or who is being oppressive is highly subjective. So, is everyone confortable with a society in which access to heavy duty weapons is as easy as we make it? Is this the whole end goal of the 2nd amendment?

So once again slick, you distort reality and equate cop shooting with the 2nd amendment (edited). How pathetic and what a tool for the left you are. Too bad you don't understand this is a race relation issue. When you have a President who promotes racial division what do you expect to happen?

in the eyes of those feeling excessively tormented, no, it is an oppressive government issue. Just because what they see as a repressive government doesn't agree with your definition, what makes their uprising against same any less noble than others? You see, when you've spent the last 20 years telling folks that we need semi-auto weapons, armor piercing ammo and the like because we need to be 'vigilant' against tyranny, you can't just call it some 'racial tension' when someone puts your chosen theory to the test. Any bets as to whether they topple the government?

you proofread this stuff, woody? Yes, I equate cop shooting with cop shooting. Sort of like how I prefer to equate apples with apples and Donald Trump to a pathetic, orange clown.

I'm sort of in a weird position on this. I think this is the exact intent of the 2nd Amendment, to keep with citizens the ability to fight tyranny, whether it be invaders from outside, or their own government. In general, I agree with that intent. But I also view the 2nd as a relic of a time long since past, when muskets were state of the art. It simply doesn't translate all that well to the age of Billion dollar weapons platforms.

So, am I comfortable with this? I would say I'm as comfortable as when confronted by some hateful free speech. (not to minimize the severity of the situation) I can acknowledge the principles involved while vehemently disagreeing with the content.

No, but I bet it results in some kind of social change, that wouldn’t have happened otherwise.

Is putting classified documents on a personal server the accepted norm now?

So what you are saying TG, is that the race component where black are shooting white cops from ambush is OK because a couple of white cops killed black men? That it is OK for blacks to kill the cops before any legal proceedings against the white cops have found if they are guilty or not. That we have a President who has enhanced the racial divide to the point where we are?

the notion that Obama has advanced any racism that didn't already exist is a joke. He just brought out the scared little white boys for one last gasp.

Were those the same scared white boys that fought in WW2, Korea, Vietnam and the Middle East?

some of them, yes, some of them no. The usual service for the folks I know is often the Coast Guard, as many came from families of watermen. I hear the younger ones talking about the way it used to be, until those of us both older and a bit more sensitive to others point out that the way it used to be included segregated rest rooms, schools and water fountains. That just isn't going to be coming back. Still, they see the stranglehold majority grip of white males eroding, for decades. Then, a black man becomes President, and some of them just went crazy. Now, they see 8 years of a woman, maybe TWO running the show, and that further shows them that the erosion isn't going to stop. What is going to be funny(I'm about to head down with the family for a week or so in VA)is talking to them now, with black folks discovering they, too, can buy a powerful gun in Amerika and start shooting cops, to see whether gun control is starting to sound plausible. Should make for some interesting morning discussions in the little restaurant in town. You see, most of the most hardcore gun-totin' types I know down there are essentially harmless. Bigotted, perhaps, but harmless, and they see the right to bear arms as little more than the freedom to go jump in the pickup truck, with the Confederate Flag on it, and drive around town. The thought of someone maybe targetting them might change the dynamic.

And I guess since more people die in car accidents than by Muslim extremists, you're going to have to change your posting habits too, huh? Don't be a hypocrite.

I'm hoping for a Darwinian thinning of the herd, and still aware that every generation views it's younger iterations with grave suspicion. It's worked out pretty well for the last 8 millenia or so.
