Overkill
Listening to NPR radio (specifically the Diane Rehm show...surprised slick?) and I was surprised to hear them talking about overkill of the negative views the media has of Trump. They thought the overkill was actually going to help trump as people will remember the media doing the same to Romney. Turned out Romney was really a decent human being and voters now can see the media doing the same to Trump. In Trumps case the people can see the overkill and are reacting against it. Kinda like slick on this board, a constant barrage of Trump is bad to the exclusion of all else. The Washington Post (which is by no means a bastion of conservative views) wrote a article on Hillary's tenure as NY senator and how she failed miserably on her promise to bring jobs to her state (something like 200k lost while she was in office). Perhaps the Trump bashing media is getting the message that without balance their paper looks no more that a political rah rah rag for one candidate and it is now affecting their market share. So lets see if this is a turning point.

Re: Overkill
seriously, Woody, it is gladdening to hear you were listening to NPR(don't get that talk show here, btw), but the issue isn't a matter of overkill. It's a matter of letting your own actions, coupled with the opposition being very prepared, define you. Trump has allowed the Clinton camp to completely define him as a hater, intermperate and most of all, a loser. That was why I suggested a week or two back that this election could well be over already. The same thing did in Kerry, Dukakis, Dole and others. Having all those Dole folks running the Trump campaign nowadays shouldn't fill you with confidence, as they have experience running the worst Presidential campaign before this year. The other issue now seeming to be in place is ground organization. Obviously, the Dems have been better at this than the GOP for a while now, but this ought to scare any Trump hopes. Here in Delaware, there is NO Trump campaign office. No big deal, we have few Electoral votes. But, when I see the exact same lack of field offices in Virginia and anecdotally in PA, you just cannot win an election that way. And, that isn't the sort of infrastructure that gets built in a couple of weeks, either.
as I said, wait and watch. Trump is playing the game badly, he knows it and it shows in both his body language and his actual presentation. Now, it's all about the unfairness of it all, suggestions that the other side has to cheat to win(hint--Philly can NEVER do anything to get Clinton a 9 percent win, unless she was maybe 8.5% ahead to start with), etc. Having Time come out and talk about Meltdown isn't good for the 'winner' brand, either. It's going to be long two months plus ahead, but I wouldn't be counting on much past maybe having the GOP hold the house and break even in the Senate.

Trump's not playing the game, he's outright throwing it.

Re: Overkill
I have yet to see a single Trump ad air in the local Philly market. Meanwhile Hillary's crew puts out a new one pretty much every week, including right smack in the middle of NBC's primetime Olympics coverage last night. It is incredible just how staggeringly inept his campaign is.

same market most of the time, same experience. She is bombarding evening news hours, local news, Olympics and during the day, shows aimed at stay at home moms and grandmothers/retired women.Top Gun wrote:I have yet to see a single Trump ad air in the local Philly market. Then, I spent a week in Virginia during the GOP convention, and it was the same. Wow.
What a lot of folks, likely most, don't realize is that she's dropping air time she bought MONTHS ago. What's left now, goes for a premium over reserved rates. I suspect that Trump has little invested in reserved ad buys, and now is paying top dollar for what is left over. That explains the fears of the down ballot guys wanting the party to stop advertising for Trump(ludicrous, as he is the one raising what money they have). The pot isn't that full, his map of targets HAS to be expanded to have a prayer, his turnout operation has to be first rate, and all this stuff could drain the budget real fast. Meanwhile, the Dems, if the gap in polling holds up fairly well, then could pour resources into the Congressional campaigns at will. Gotta be some serious sweating going on throughout the political landscape this year.......

Yet for all the money Hillary Clinton is blowing on air time, she can't get many folks to attend her rallies...unlike Trump who not only packs em in but has thousands more outside listening over the loud speakers. Go ahead slick, keep chortling about how much she is spending and I'll name you 8 or mor Repub. who also spent more than Trump during the primaries. Spend all you want but if your candidate is seen as a liar and a crooked self enricher, all the money in the world won't get her elected.

Re: Overkill
you seem, now on two occaisions, to be attempting the feeble Trump talking points of the day, Woody.
1. Hillary is 'shrill'(codeword for a woman, long standing)
2. Hillary doesn't draw as big a crowds.
in reverse order, Bernie was good at drawing crowds. Hillary got people to the polls. The shrill bit is utterly irrelevant, as we are electing someone
to be responsibly in charge, not affable and dumb as a brick.

Re: Overkill
oh, and if those big rallies go like the one in CT tonight, who cares how many show up? Here's the live report from someone who went(and is leaning to Trump):
"Went to my first Trump rally in Fairfield one hour. It was late, waited 1.5 hours, it was hot. Donald started with standard stuff. I thought rally was going to build but towards the end Donald seemed to lose focus and energy. I was disappointed. I expected to be transported, and it did not happen. I cheered at all the right places, and I met a lot of really nice people, and then I walked to my car in the lightning and torrential downpour."
also, what the hell was he DOING in CT? He's behind in the polls by between 11 and 18 percent. The state doesn't have very many electoral votes and almost always goes Dem. Why is he not going to one the 14 core states? Every damned day, especially if he is short on ad budget? It's almost as if he really doesn't wish to win.
