Reading about all the colleges coddling their students by protecting them from ideas contrary to what they think is proper, it is refreshing to read about a top ranked college that thinks the idea is hogwash:
“Our commitment to academic freedom means that we do not support so-called “trigger warnings,” we do not cancel invited speakers because their topics might prove controversial, and we do not condone the creation of intellectual “safe spaces” where individuals can retreat from ideas and perspectives at odds with their own,” the letter states.
The University of Chicago is having none of it. To drive home the point, the letter to students includes a link to a report on freedom of expression issued by the university in January 2015. The report quotes a former president of the University, Hanna Holborn Gray, as saying that “education should not be intended to make people comfortable, it is meant to make them think.

This is a mis-characterization of what it means to have a safe-space. Also, the need for safe spaces is context dependent. University of Chicago has a much different social geography than universities with few minorities. Source: I attended school there. Also, the myth of the coddled student has already been debunked in another thread. I would say I'm surprised to see this one, but I know you never learn anything.
I guess you didn't read the quotes in my OP. U of C sure doesn't seem to think it is a myth. Maybe you could direct them to the post where you debunked it.

The issue of coddling students was argued against, but was never “debunked”, that’s just a little tactic of declaring yourself the winner, and is pretty much meaningless.
LoL sure. It was backed up with empirical evidence. Go look at the thread again.
This article is click-bait designed to outrage low-IQ readers and entice them to post on social media. The letter from the Dean is a PR stunt. And let's not forget that the letter itself is the ultimate trigger-warning.
Keep on drinking the coddled kid Kool-Aid though...
