that question is so stupid as to lead me to question your mental health. Yes, he's very wrong.

Come up to Detroit and I'll take you on a tour of what you think are prosperous inner city neighborhoods.

uh, were you around any major city in the East back in the 60s? If so, you might START to grasp what idiocy you just blurted out. Right now, you have a lot of economic malaise for poor people of all colors.Check the angry, dope addled, white folks in the rust belt and coal regions. Coupled with white flight, both physical and in terms of civic responsibility(taxes), yes, some cities now are a hot mess. Still, steady progress for issues around COLOR, specifically, has been seen from 1863 forward. As I said, anyone who views Trump's comment as remotely close to true is simply blind to reality and history. Not surprising, many white nationalists are so inclined. Coincidence?

edit--you do realize that 'ever, ever, ever' includes the period when they were bought, sold and forcibly bred like livestock, right? That, despite, toward the end, some of those people having 4 generations of family in the US? And, you ask: Is what Trump said not true? Sad.

But…if you eliminate slavery from the scenario and consider things like the broken family…the devastation of a once growing and thriving economic base…dependence on government, and some other factors, then you might start to see some truth to what he said.

sorry, given the history of post-reconstruction suppression of BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS, the social ills(which are mostly tied to recovery from that era being long and slow) pale by comparison, and frankly, I cannot see where any human being with a shred of decency can't accept that obvious fact.

Well the question becomes one of relevance between oppression from outside and what is becoming endemic to the group itself.

fair enough, and I'd argue(strongly, as one might suspect of me) that loss of rights and personal freedoms from outside trumps any self-inflicted wounds, in that the subgroup can, over time, rectify the latter, without the need for legislation, revolt, etc. Your Mileage May Vary on that argument.

Actually I tend to agree…if there was some honest guidance involved.

Trump continued: “And I say to the African-American communities, and I think it’s resonating, because you see what’s happening with my poll numbers with African-Americans. They’re going, like, high.”

The GOP nominee’s actual poll numbers among African-Americans have been dismal: according to Washington Post/ABC polling, Trump is only taking 5 percent of the demographic, based on an average of data from August and September.
What's that old saying again? "Repeat a lie often enough..."
