Is there anything else besides

net send computer
for talking to other computers on the network that is actually free? I thought they already made a plugin for Trillian by now, but I guess im wrong.

You can setup a private chat server with jabber where you are the admin of who is in and who is out.

can Windows Messenger or MSN work on a LAN? both are included with Win 2k and higher
