There certainly is free speech...but it may end your career.
He's also representing the municipality when he puts on that uniform- which he should have taken into consideration.
If he did it on his off time and is willing to take the consequences...well, it's his right.
Same goes with people like Kapernick. He can do whatever he wants in terms of freedom of speech- but he is also representing his team and the NFL. It's up to them to decide whether or not to sanction him or fire him.
