it's the time of year I determine my charities........
....and, I think I've found one that addresses a true need(ducks and covers):

I get that this is supposed to be funny, but it's not in the slightest. It's actually infuriating that people think like this. I couldn't even get past the first minute of the video.
I live in a trendy urban neighbourhood that would be considered "cozy" by some standards. Over the past few years I've gotten to know a large number of the local business owners and their employees. One thing I've noticed is that there is very little turnover. These same young people have been busting their asses making coffee and sandwiches and checking out people at the grocery stores ever since I moved here. I've learned that some of them have more education than I do. They are bright with a great work ethic, but do these jobs because there is little else available. My favorite barista is a stunning, articulate, hard working young lady with a chemistry degree who has been making the perfect latte for me the last four years. It's not the future she had in mind while in school.
The Millennial "Hipster/Loser" stereotype hasn't been relevant since the late 2000s and people making videos like this are way out of touch with the reality of today.

umm, I think the humorist is a peer, to be honest. I noted in the comments, the lack of humor of some of the respondants. To be honest, while perfectly aware it is a stereotype intended for humor purposes, I think there is a bit of truth, based on my day to day experience.

Just remember you are from a different socioeconomic status than most struggling Millennials, besides not being a Millennial yourself. Granted I'm not a Millennial either, but I probably have above average contact with them for someone my age.callmeslick wrote:I think there is a bit of truth, based on my day to day experience.

Slick, pretty ballsy, considering millennials are subsidizing your generation's social security, healthcare, and wars.

I knew the humor might hit close to home for some, and frankly was interested in the response. Overall, I think the observations I'd tend to make about folks under 35 are not that much different than those my parents made about my generation. And so on, through time. By and large, I have some faith that millenials will do alright for the nation and the world. I DO think there is a grain of truth insofar as your generation seems to be on an extended adolescence carrying self-centeredness, shallow intellectual depth and lack of critical thinking WAY past the age where such should have ceased, but I'll lay that off to cranky old man status. As for you all carrying me and mine? Winking smiley duly noted. Ballsy? Nah, just all in good fun, and hope it's a view that I'm willing to skewer all sides in these strange times......

Y'know I think I'm doing the whole millennial thing wrong. I need to go out and buy a douchey fedora and a bunch of plaid shirts. And my new glasses don't even look like they came off a 60s NASA employee.

Again, I couldn't disagree more. I work in the tech industry which is full of Millennials and an uncomfortable number of them are having a rough time. I'm the "cool, old guy" that meets them at the bar after work and gets invited to barbecues to socialize with their friends and spouses. These are the people you would think should be making good wages and buying property, but a shocking number of them still need roommates. One kid I work with is considering giving up programming to become a hair stylist because he thinks it is a more stable career. If you ever wonder why a lot of Millennials work in the service industry it's because these jobs are actually better than the "real jobs" they got degrees for.callmeslick wrote:I DO think there is a grain of truth insofar as [that] generation seems to be on an extended adolescence carrying self-centeredness, shallow intellectual depth and lack of critical thinking WAY past the age where such should have ceased, but I'll lay that off to cranky old man status.
