Seriously, any fool who didn't fall asleep in an American History class knows that during the 1960s, that faction of the Dems left the party, after the party took on the mantle of Civil Rights(sort of started in the 50s during Trumans years), and was capped off by Nixon's 'Southern Strategy'. They largely became Republicans, even the leadership.

KKK was not specifically aligned with either party. It's just that one party was THE ONLY party any white southerner joined after the Civil War, and especially the blunderfest that was Reconstruction.
