As if we didn't need any more evidence...

Post by Tunnelcat »

That Trump is a dictator wannabe with delusions of grandeur who cares little for the trappings of democracy, here's the icing on the cake. He now wants to have our military perform full on military parades during the 4th of July, complete with tanks, missiles, aircraft flyovers and goose-stepping soldiers marching down the street in front of his magnificent presence. Since the military prefers stuff like that being done on Veterans Day, we'll see this nonsense paraded before us at least twice a year, until Trump leaves office. That kind of showmanship automatically reminds me of North Korea and Russia, autocratic and repressive militaristic countries, not America. We don't need parades that prove to the world our military is strong. We already know it to be a fact. But it gets even worse, because like everything else Trumpian, he wants a BIGGER parade than anyone else can put on. So where's Trump going to get the extra millions to continually put on national parades that even come close to topping those of dictatorial countries who's leaders are willing to take every last cent from their people just to pay for such dick-waving nonsense? Why, us taxpayers of course. Silly me, I thought we already had a massive debt that has to be dealt with first.

Beschloss points to the 1950s, when Dwight D. Eisenhower was president and Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev presided over large military parades showing off the latest in Soviet military might. Beschloss says some in the White House approached Eisenhower, himself a decorated military general, suggesting the U.S. do the same, to show off American might.

"Eisenhower said absolutely not, we are the preeminent power on Earth," Beschloss says, recalling Eisenhower's response. "For us to try to imitate what the Soviets are doing in Red Square would make us look weak."

I saw that on the news this morning, yet another wasteful and moronic idea.

meanwhile, we cannot feed citizens in Puerto Rico, after a disaster. Maybe he should march some folks down there to get the job done.
