What is your suggestion for...?

Post by Jesus Freak »

Alright, I'm considering pairs of headphones for D3 at CHILAN! These are my top 2 choices:

1. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... %3AIT&rd=1

2. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... %3AIT&rd=1

Which do you all think is the best headphone? Retail, the Logitech headphone goes for $49.99. The Labtecs go for somewhere between $39.95 and $49.99. Both cost about the same on Ebay. So what is yall's opinion?

On a side note, I know that these are factory refurbished and all the rest of the details.

I'm also considering new speakers cause my current 2 speakers sorta sux0rz ya know? Here are my choices:

1. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... %3AIT&rd=1

2. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... %3AIT&rd=1

3. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... RK:MEWA:IT

The first one sells for $99.99 retail. The second sells for $399.95 retail. The third I am unsure of. Which would be best for MY needs? I watch DVDs on my pc, play games, and listen to music.

Thanks for your input!

Regarding the speakers, you're off on your prices a little bit. Newegg has the Z640s for $61, the Z-680's for $273, and the Z-5300's for $147. I have a set of the Z640's and they rock. I'm not a hardcore audiophile, but they sound great to me and can get really loud.

Regarding headphones, I'd go for Plantronics Audio 60 headset. click me The price is VERY reasonable, and its got excellent audio quality. I've been using a pair of these for the last two years and I've never had a single problem with them.

Zalman do a great 5.1 set of headphones which are getting good reviews.

The Logitech z-5300s are the biggest bang-per-buck I have EVER heard - bar none! I have sold about 6 sets of these to friends and relatives - and they all say the same thing: "OMFG - How the Hell does such a huge sound come out of such tiny speakers???" (We'll ignore the fact you can use the subwoofer as a small coffee table! :P)

So yeah - the 5300s kick motherfathering A - but be warned, you will potentially deafen yourself, annoy your neighbours, or make you rmother want to kill you! :)

Take it from me, who's done literally HUNDREDS of hours of research about headphones and speakers:

For the headphones, you definitely want something "closed" for use at LAN parties, and one of the best budget closed phones is Sennheiser's HD212 Pro. Runs about $30-$40 online if you know where to look. And great for gaming since bass is exaggerated quite a bit.

Logitech's Z-640 is a good budget option. Certainly not bad, it does put up impressive sound levels, but as you can tell from the price, it's not ideal for music.

If you go high-end 5.1, FORGET the Z-680. It's way outclassed by the Cambridge MegaWorks 550THX, and Klipch's ProMedia Ultra 5.1.

I ended up buying the Labtec Elite 840 headphones. They seem to fit my needs and budget better. They have a 10' cord, supposedly comfortable headband for extended CHILAN use, and are supposed to be reasonably high quality. I bought them for $3 on Ebay :)

As for the speakers, my Dad just told me he has a set of $500 5.1 surround sound speakers and subwoofer. The only thing I need now is to buy a sound card with enough ports and features to support it!
