I've been "scored" as centrist on several "political" tests. More like when you're hard left, everyone else is a nazi.
I suppose it really depends on what you consider “the center”. I hold out hope that most people aren’t left or right for the sole purpose of belonging to a tribe so they can call people names and absolve themselves from thinking critically.

I lived with a girlfriend who is a Protestant Republican research biologist that believes in intelligent design. We talked about it a lot - it didn’t bother me because her view was measured and thought out. It wasn’t like she was throwing a wrench in researching Lyme disease because some drunk fishermen in the Mediterranean wrote down a bunch of fables 2 thousand years ago and that changes the fact that the dominant eye color of deer ticks is red. She was just fiscally conservative and believes “some intelligence” might have sparked the universe. Ok.
I don’t know what that has to do with anything other than you can get along with people you don’t always agree with; especially if they have a nice rump.

Most of us are centrist. I'm 100% on board with fiscal and federal conservatism and expanded state's rights, but I want progressive civil rights wherever possible. That doesn't leave room for me to be left or right, does it? By the way, there was CUDA and Spidey, and they were both reasonable conservatives. Maybe they're too embarrassed by the goings on in the Republican Party of Trump to even comment anymore.
Even as a Democrat I was more pro-military than most demoncats and I never believed in abortion or same-sex marriage. As a demoncat I liked that they were more about domestic issues and at the time I thought they cared more about the little guy and about the middle class so I didn't qualify as a reptilican.
