Pete Buttigieg
I never start threads in E&C. And I know it's way too early to think about the 2020 election. However, I want to say that I think Mayor Pete Buttigieg is a sleeper candidate who will make a big splash in the next election. A few months ago I heard an interview with him on NPR. He's absolutely brilliant. So far he's the only candidate from any party I find interesting.
Just sayin'.
Just sayin'.
Re: Pete Buttigieg
I've listened to Buttigieg some and have been impressed, but the lack of a track record makes me a little uncomfortable. It's one thing to say the right words, it's another to be able to point back at a body of work promoting those concepts. Maybe that will change for me over the next year.
I think if the primary were today, I'd have to flip a coin between Sanders and Warren. My dream candidate would be Warren's wonk guided by Sanders' convictions wrapped in Harris' take no guff attitude.

The Democratic Party Voltron!
I see your point, but I feel like Buttigieg isn't too far from Obama at this stage in his career and we elected Barrack for 8 years as president.
Re: Pete Buttigieg
I get this feeling as well, but I don't necessarily see it as a good thing. Not being a known quantity, it's easy to project your own hopes onto him. I think that's what happened with Obama, and it was a bit of a let down when he turned out to not be the transformative figure envisioned, but an above average centrist. He was basically a good steward for the status quo at a time when there was a real window (maybe the last) for structural change or accountability.vision wrote:I feel like Buttigieg isn't too far from Obama at this stage in his career
I don't really want an unproven commodity this time around.

Re: Pete Buttigieg
Sad. I'd vote for him just to piss off and needle every homophobic Christian in the country. It would be schadenfreude just to see him beat a womanizing dirt bag like Donald Trump in 2020 too.

As long as we don’t piss off any homophobic Muslims…

Oh look, Spidey is here with another witless one-liner that contributes nothing to the conversation but in his mind is a poignant statement about society. Great job!

Re: Pete Buttigieg
This guy was definitely not a Muslim and Islam is not the dominant religion in this country and never will be. Plus, not all Christians are homophobic and are quite respectful, unlike the "Christians" who attend Trump rallies. What's wrong here is a that a "Christian" bigot stood there protesting his hatred and ignorance like a badge of honor at a candidate's campaign rally. They're usually the ones doing this type of protesting anyway, like Fred Phelps and crew. I say if they don't like that gay candidate, just don't vote for him or her if they run for office. Most of us don't need to hear their bigoted and foul BS.
Here's an example of a "Republican Christian" wanting to flip the bird at our Democracy by advocating giving Trump 2 more years gratis as president as reparations for the Mueller investigation. Time lost my ass. If Trump would quit watching Fox News and other TV news shows 4 to 8 hours a day on our dime, he'd have had plenty of time to perform his job as president.

But hey, if Trump can threaten to assault protestors at one of his boner rallies, and even have his supporters actually assault said protestors, I'd say Buttigieg showed a LOT more class by saying "Thank you". The Dem supporters in the crowd showed a ton more civility by either just ignoring or jeering this protestor without beating the crap of him.

Re: Pete Buttigieg
The proper response to my comment should have been something like…
“Well I hope it pisses them off as well”.
But instead you rant on about “Christians” proving your bigotry.

Re: Pete Buttigieg
I don't "hate" Christians. My sister is an Evangelical and I vehemently disagree with her on this issue, but we're still very close. I even believe in Jesus. Yes, I AM biased against those people to like to go out in public and stand there all high and mighty on a pedestal spewing hate, putting down or repressing others for their indomitable traits. It just happens that a few select sects of Christianity seem to have that nasty purpose cast into their DNA and yes, Islam in general as you noted, are biased against LGBTQ people. They have their "opinion" and I have mine. I just don't go out into the public space and yell it to anyone and everyone who will tolerate it, other than here. However, it does make me wonder what would happen if a clearly Muslim person (dressed in a Hijab or quoting the Koran for example) went to some rally or function and blathered the same name calling and ranting that the guy at the Buttigieg rally did. What would the reaction be at either a Dem or Repub rally in this country in the day and age of Trump for example? I'm guessing the Dems would still shout him down while the Repubs would tie themselves into a Gordian knot as to whether they should support this person or disavow and beat the crap out of him.

Don't presume you can dictate to people on how they should respond. That's just low class, and you're old enough to know better.
