Its Official

Post by woodchip »

According to the San. Fran. board of Supervisor, as a member of the NRA, I am now the DBB's official terrorist. I wonder if this means I can no longer get on a passenger plane. Have fun.

Well, don't try to get on a plane at SFO. I doubt you'd even want to go there anyway it's so, eeewwwwww, liberal. And don't walk around open carry in Walmart, CVS, Kroger, Wegmans and Walgreens either and I'm betting the NRA is having conniptions over that too. Poor babies. Private enterprise can do what they want.

However, I do think the NRA is the big monkey wrench jamming up the works of trying to fix this nation's high gun murder rate epidemic. They are fighting ANY kind of meaningful gun reform, like regulating private sales so that we know who obtains what guns from whom and having uniform background checks for ALL types of private gun transfers and sales. None of this hidden "legal gun sales" crap from online and private sources. You know, like that Dayton, Texas shooter who went around shooting people with his AR 15 outfitted with drum magazines that he legally bought online even though he was found mentally unfit to own a weapon during a background check, which of course prevented him from purchasing his weapon from a national store where they are required to perform a background check.

However, Americans are just plain schizophrenic when if comes to gun laws. Polls have shown that around 90% favor universal background checks, especially after a mass shooting, whereas that number drops to around 50% when actual gun control is discussed. So with these perplexing attitudes, nothing will get solved and the NRA will continue to be labeled a terrorist organization in San Francisco. Live with it. Americans will also have to live with mass shootings too since about 50% seem hesitant to give the government the information of who owns what guns and where as a form of gun regulation. Either way, Americans don't seem to have the same fervent worry about someone using a car or knife to commit mass murder.

https://www.politifact.com/punditfact/s ... ackground/
The same October CBS/New York Times poll that found 92 percent support for expanded background checks also shows 46 percent of Americans think laws covering gun sales should be either made less strict or stay the same. Just 51 percent said the laws should be made more strict.

"People don't seem to like the idea of ‘gun control,’ but they still want the government to do more to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill," said Adam Winkler, a law professor at the University of California Los Angeles and author of Gunfight: The Battle over the Right to Bear Arms in America.

The NRA is not the nations police. While you and others here see the NRA as a foible to preventing mass killings, the NRA's real function is gun safety. Most states that require some sort of training to obtain a cpl license, a NRA certified instructor is mandated. As to shooting examples don't forget how many times the florida hs shooter was notified to the fbi and local police agencies. Banning firearms or confiscating them is not the answer.

Not just SF. Every big city in a warm climate has the same massive problem right now, homelessness and human excrement in the streets, if that's your reference. You don't see it because you live in a rural area in a cold climate far removed from the situation. To you, it's not a problem. Hell, you're more worried that you as part of the NRA are now labeled as being a member of a terrorist organization. Whoopee dips wake up, because your issue is mouse nuts in comparison to the problems of the cities, because not all of us are blessed with a quiet rural existence in a northern climate. So tell me how great and wonderful our economy is when many can't afford a home, or don't have the work skills TO be able to afford that home. Tell me how great our health care system is when the rest of these people are hopelessly drug addicted and/or mentally ill with no real help in any shape or form because it just costs too much. This nation needs to wake up. Everything is not sugar and roses in the Trump economy, especially since the bastard wants to take credit.

Bull. Safety my rear end. The NRA's sole reason for political existence to to protect the Second Amendment, no matter what it takes, how they redefine a local militia or how many are murdered in the process. The NRA is still against ANY type of background checks for private and online gun sales or transfers, for the sole reason they don't want to have anything to do with giving the government more information on who owns what guns in this country.

I do agree that's exactly what would happen. Trying to take away everyone's guns only leaves those who still own the illegal stuff. There's just no way to get rid of all guns without an authoritarian militaristic action. It's never going to happen either, as much as conservatives fear, because at least half this country loves their guns as much as their sex and no government action is going to be able to change that fact. An armed insurrection would be the inevitable reaction to a move like that and liberals need to get that through their heads as they keep pushing for stricter gun controls. It ain't gonna happen, at least in this country, at this time and with these realities. Personally, I would be against it as well. I like the peace of mind of owning weapons which I know how to use. It takes the police way too long to respond to a home break in and I like having the ability to protect myself if possible. I have absolutely no compunction about shooting an intruder either. However, as a gun owner, I would never consider being a member of the NRA. They are a bunch of clowns right now on top of being their own worst enemy and a political stain on the Second Amendment. The fact their leadership can't get their act together shows me that too much power and money at the top will corrupt ANY organization.

You're wrong. Who else will defend the 2nd A? The Dems.? Are you just as upset when the press or social media actively tries to muzzle conservative thought? Were you as vocal about the fairness doctrine when the libs were trying to push that through? Do you voice your opposition when conservatives on college campuses are muzzled? I suggest you look around before objecting too loudly about a organisation simple because you too narrow visioned to see the entire picture.

It is interesting that on forums one needs emoji's to make apparent satire. However if I was to write a poem or short story in paper form, or perform a SNL skit, no emoji's would be needed. Has the internet/texting so dumbed most of us down that we need emoji's to understand one another?

It's not a matter of people being dumbed down. Text has always lacked key means of communicating satire and sarcasm requiring it be labeled as such. It has compounded over the past couple years by a constant stream of ridiculous sh!t that not long ago would've been considered absurd or hyperbolic, but now has to be taken seriously because it's becoming reality.

So yeah, using a smiley helps. :)

You should've searched San Francisco. That was your original comment.

https://www.foxnews.com/us/san-francisc ... complaints

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... melessness

And they've tried controlling the problem, but they haven't been successful because being homeless is not a crime. Sure, they can be evicted or moved because of criminal or nuisance behavior, but all that does is move the problem somewhere else to someone else's doorstep. It's a symptom of our economy with no good solution. You say there's jobs in MI? If a person is homeless, how are they going to get there from here and who would pay to train and hire someone that has no permanent address or clean clothes? I'm guessing that they'd be told to walk and then be stuck in cold MI. That also doesn't include the rest who are mentally ill or drug users. They can't be employed until they get cleaned up and no one has the will, way or money to solve that part of the problem.

Man woody's just hitting the whole list of stupid Hannity talking points isn't he. "Oh no they're censoring conservative voices!" they clamor on the popular cable news network whose incessant lying is largely responsible for getting a narcissistic dementa-addled sociopath into the most powerful office in the world. If that's what censorship looks like, then for the love of God stop.

Woody, do tell me how we morphed from the "well regulated militia" part of the Second Amendment into the "make sure every person in the U.S. can own military style weapons in case they need to overthrow the government" version we seem to honor now? If you're so afraid of a big bad government, why'd you vote for an authoritarian strongman who's so stupid he runs the country all by himself with crayons and sycophants? Talk about screwed up bloated authoritarian government. After Trump, we may need to overthrow the crapfest that Trump has created in the last 31/2 years and I guarantee you won't like it because it's the left wing who's fed up with this clusterf**k of a big business sycophant swamp we now have.

Y'know 75 years ago punching Nazis earned one a medal. I consider it a patriotic duty.

And yeah man, those Democratic candidates are raving lunatics for wanting to guarantee people healthcare like almost every other nation on the planet. The hell are they thinking?

So about that well-regulated militia of yours, do they give you a free shirt when you join?

How about banning all air travel? Or building fast rail across the country to replace. You have read how CA stopped it's high speed rail system as it was just too expensive. Or in 10 years have USA become a net zero greenhouse gas emissions. Whose going to pay for all this? You and your liberal anti-fa friends?

I wanted to know what you were basing your opinions on.

Personally, I think leftist political violence is blown way out of proportion. There are certainly those looking for a fight, but from what I've seen, it's usually a reaction to some sort of provoking incursion. Like Milo in Berkeley, or Patriot Prayer/Proud Boys in Portland, where specific ostensibly leftist communities are targeted. It's the stated goal of some groups to stage these events to provoke the reaction that is then exploited in the media.

I'm not for violence and I think it's stupid to be easily provoked, but at some point, actual ★■◆●ing fascists have to meet resistance. And when I say "actual ★■◆●ing fascist," I'm not talking about you unless you're out there with an "88" tattoo making the white power "OK" sign wearing a "Pinochet was Right" t-shirt looking to provoke a street fight.

So now you are acting ignorant instead of doing a simple google search. This is beneath you:

Yeah, and you should do searches on your own quite poisonous far right groups. The Proud Boys come to mind, since they've been coming to Portland and other cities on the left coast just to rile up Antifa and get into massive fights in the downtown areas. Antifa always shows up when these guys appear by the way, like a right of passage. I haven't forgotten that Antifa loves to protest G7 summits and get violent about it which I think is just plain juvenile and non-productive as things go. But the Proud Boys are no angels either. They love to come in, rub their brand of hate in everyone's faces, wave their American flags with a sick patriotic fervor and deride leftists, immigrants and non-whites and spoil for a fight. I'm not absolving Antifa of their BS crap they do either, they're just as bad for vandalizing people's businesses and behaving like delinquents. But we as a nation need to remember, the world fought WWII just to stop Fascism and Nazism and it's sad so many young people have forgotten that fact. Those who forget history ARE doomed to repeat it.

Doing something earlier WILL be costly, but it may be cheaper in the long run. However, no one wants to believe that the climate is being altered by our activity or that we'll all have to change our lifestyles to accommodate that problem because we're all too comfortable and busy in our petty little lives to bother. Woody, I know you don't believe in climate change and that you don't want to do anything about it because it's going to cost a lot of money to remediate. But I've got news for you. We're already starting to pay more out of our pockets from the major damage being caused by bigger and hotter fires, more frequent tornadoes and larger hurricanes. My insurance rates keep climbing just to pay for people who rebuild their homes lost over and over again to floods, fires and wind damage strikes in the usual disaster prone areas. MY area, formerly wet, is becoming like California, drier and drier and prone to big fires. And people are going to KEEP rebuilding because they like where they live, nasty weather or not, until eventually it gets to expensive to rebuild and live there. By the time we know we're in real trouble, nature will have made the decision for us and we'll all be crying "Why didn't we do something sooner?"

How about, oh I don't know, the bloated multinational corporations and trust-fund babies who don't pay a fraction of their fair share in taxes. If we don't do something drastic in the next decade or two our planet is well and truly fucked. I guess being a Boomer you have the luxury of not giving a ★■◆●, though, because you'll be dead and buried before the mess your fuckawful generation created actually comes to pass.

As a California resident I'm happy to pay for all of this. I'm also anti-fascist and will gladly oppose far-right groups who organize to spew hate in my city, though that will probably never happen because people are generally way too chill in Southern California.
