What do Walmart and Beto have in common
So lets see what you know of firearms. The commonality between Walmart and Beto is they are both stupidly ignorant about firearms and ammo. So lets see if anyone here is any less stupid. At the very least you may explore the net to elucidate yourself.

The bigger the gun, the smaller the penis. Do you really need to know more?
Re: What do Walmart and Beto have in common
Why do you care about Beto? There are MUCH bigger problems in this country than gun legislation. Get focused on the big stuff, not this piddly crap.
Re: What do Walmart and Beto have in common
Hmm, what is the commonality between Beto appearing to want the militia more well regulated, and Walmart choosing not to sell certain guns/ammo as well as requesting that people don't open carry in their stores?
It's certainly possible they both are ignorant about firearms and ammo, though Beto's from Texas so it would go against the stereotype. And if Walmart were ignorant about firearms and ammo, we probably shouldn't let it sell them at all.

I would be quite happy if all the sporting goods stores and big box retailers stopped selling guns and ammo so you had to go to an actual specialty gun shop who would then charge astronomical prices on everything.
Re: What do Walmart and Beto have in common
I think woody's still experiencing cognitive dissonance over the fact that a horrific mass shooting at a Walmart in Texas, pretty much ground zero for 2nd Amendment nutjobs, utterly and completely destroys the narrative of "a good guy with a gun" that he and his ilk are so fond of pushing everywhere.
Re: What do Walmart and Beto have in common
The lack of curiosity here is astounding:
Vision, if you think calling for out right gun confiscation is piddly, I suggest you wake up from lala land. And TG just where was the good guy with a gun?

Ackshually it's called a magazine.
Re: What do Walmart and Beto have in common
They weren't there. That's the whole point. In a Walmart filled with gun nuts and selling guns, no one stopped a mass shooter, just like a trained security guard stood outside a high school and let teenagers die. The "good guy with a gun" is a complete myth peddled by fat slobs in Rascals who get a half-chub watching First Blood Part 2.

Re: What do Walmart and Beto have in common
I'll hand you that. I wouldn't buy a gun OR ammo from Walmart anyway. I mean, they've forced the cheapification of everything else we Americans buy, so I wouldn't want to buy a cheaply made gun that's firing cheaply made ammo from the biggest cheapskate and very clueless about the products they sell corporation on the planet. I mean, I bought a particular shotgun from Cabelas because they had it in stock. I did my own research on the particular shotgun I wanted to buy well before I walked in too. I sure didn't get the impression they knew everything the product I wanted to buy, because their shelves were loaded with all sorts of different brands and types of weapons and ammo. No salesperson could know everything about every gun and type of ammo they had.
I also believe Beto has his heart in the right place, but he's not going to get anywhere near elected with it, even in this day and age of gun violence. He's playing right into the hardliner conservative's usual "they're gonna take your guns away" playbook and that stance will just cement in those fears about the Democrats and their motives concerning guns. That's a serious hit to a party just trying to get national background checks installed. Talk about shooting oneself in the foot. I seriously believe that stance is way too liberal to get yourself elected president, so I wouldn't worry about Beto and his ideas woody. They were even discussing that every statement on Chris Mattews' show today. Even Mattews acknowledged that Beto was pretty much too far to the left with those recent statements.

Maybe in a few decades Middle America will have shriveled up on the vine and died and we can actually get something with a modicum of common sense passed.

Re: What do Walmart and Beto have in common
Beto was being reactionary and I really don't blame him with all the violence happening in this country. But unfortunately, all that did was harden that rigid conservative gun-loving base even more and give them even more reasons to not trust the Dems. Now even national background checks are going to be hard to get passed. So the Dems need to remember, heat the water slowly. If you throw that frog straight into the boiling pot, it's going to jump right out and then never trust that pot again. But if you heat things slowly, the frog will take forever to notice.

Liberals should learn to love guns. Conservative heads will explode when caught in the paradox of their reflexive anti-liberal tendencies running against their single greatest fetish.

Re: What do Walmart and Beto have in common
Yeah, their heads would explode because they'd just do what they always do, keep to their one golden principle and oppose anything and everything liberal, which seems to be the ONLY principle they stick to nowadays. So what would happen is that once our nation's large body of liberals embraced military-grade gun ownership as a right and were armed to the teeth, conservatives would freak out and suddenly call all for all sorts of restrictions and take backs on guns. You want to know why? Because in conservative land, if the liberal political faction became the predominant owners of military style weapons, heaven forbid that those crazy liberals now have the ability to start an armed insurrection. Conservatives would quickly start talking gun control and how we now need to remove all those dangerous weapons from the hands of all those damn commies just to prevent a Socialist takeover of our country. If you think I'm joking with this scenario, I'm not.

Re: What do Walmart and Beto have in common
It actually has historical precedence. California started getting aggressive about gun control while Reagan was governor when it was the Black Panther Party arming themselves. It seems counter-intuitive, but probably the best way to get conservatives to move toward any moderation on gun control is for liberals to start buying guns.Tunnelcat wrote:If you think I'm joking with this scenario, I'm not.

As soon as the boogeyman "Antifa" start brandishing in open-carry states that'll be the end of Republican's fake concern for the second amendment (fake concern for the constitution in general, really).

Re: What do Walmart and Beto have in common
This explains a lot about what's currently going on and also explains why Conservatives would switch sides on the gun debate issue in a heartbeat. It's the Culture Wars, not any specific war on the Second Amendment that's driving the poisonous politics right now and I don't see a solution anytime soon we're so bitterly divided. A little NRA history for ya woodchip.Vander wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2019 11:20 amIt actually has historical precedence.
