Primaries and radio

Post by Isaac »

So I'm not reading the 50 bazillion posts that have occurred before this one, though I'm probably sure this posts could easily be a reply to someone else's post.

At the moment, I don't like any candidate that's running, but that's not what I want to talk about.

From what I infer, the GOP wants Elizabeth Warren to lead in the DNC primaries. Rush, Shapiro, and other conservative speakers will either say she has the best chance of winning the primaries or that she's the DNC's strongest candidate. And to hear Rush say positive things about a Democrat is really rare and fishy to me. Meanwhile they say Biden is the weakest. Just a gut feeling, but I'm thinking they're putting Elizabeth Warren's name out there, hoping it somehow props her up. Why?

Pretty sure Trump can't wait to say "Pocahontas" a million times in every campaign speech. It's not just a nickname. It highlights a specific event that made her look bad. Other names like "Cooked Hillary" or "Sleepy Biden" are really broad and don't point to any specific event. Pocahontas is a nickname and a reminder of an event all rolled into one. It's all Trump could ever want in one of these immature nicknames.

Basically, if all candidates from the DNC were equal, Elizabeth Warren, for that nickname alone, is a more appealing opponent to the GOP and I think the right's infotainment personalities are doing what they can to help her be chosen.

I've been wondering when that little inconvenient detail would come up. Trump's been focused on Biden, but once he drops in the polls, he'll shift his focus on her like a laser beam. Not sure how she would handle a full frontal assault by the right's infotainment division and Trump's foul rhetoric. Somehow, I think she'd wither on the vine. She doesn't strike me as a hard-nosed fighter and I think the Dems need that right now. I was kind of hoping that Andrew Yang or Tom Steyer might gain in the polls.

I wouldn't worry about it. The media only cares about ratings and Trump bashing Warren would get old immediately. Trump's presidency is a dumpster fire of epic proportions and it only takes days for him to create a scandal.

It has to be taken into account that Limbaugh, Shapiro, etc, are for all intents and purposes propagandists tending their flock. Their messaging is not aimed at those who will be be voting in the Democratic primaries, but at keeping the sheep from straying.

That being said, I do think Warren is in a more favorable position than Biden. Biden looks to be a mentally sundowning elderly man whose campaign message is the decidedly unexciting nostalgia for not Trump, lets turn the clock back to 2015. Being connected to impeachment is only going to keep his name constantly linked with corruption. I have a hard time seeing why almost any other available candidate isn't a be better choice.

She does have one advantage. She's not loathed by a sizable portion of the Democratic base, like Hillary was. Bernie's base hated Hillary, so she did not get a enough crossover Bernie voters to clinch the election in 2016. If Warren wins the nomination, she'll get most of the Dem vote including those Bernie supporters, and that'll be enough to oust Trump.

I think her position is boosted by Sanders. While she does seem genuine in her beliefs, she will never appear as genuine as Sanders. I think he does better than any other candidate at turning non voters into voters, because his ideas target people long forgotten by both parties. He has a more comprehensive narrative, as well as a decades long track record of consistency. A lot of her positions are closely aligned with his, and like he, she is also basically crowd funded without being beholden to large dollar donors. So I think she is best positioned to keep those people activated by Sanders active if he falters. The reason I lean towards Sanders is probably the same reason she might have greater appeal to others. It's hard not to see him as more uncompromising with his longer track record.

But we'll have to see how Warren does as front runner, and who the high dollar centrist establishment coalesces behind now that Biden is falling.
