That is quite a bizarre conspiracy theory. Modern American Christianity does a fine job making itself look ridiculous without help.

True. QAnon and Trump have eclipsed all. But nothing beats this nonsense that's being actively pushed in Southern Christian ville in the form of creationist theme parks. By the way to the moron in the link below, if dinosaurs lived before Noah, they'd have eaten his ass for din din as well as his family's long before he got that boat built. And if God told Noah to save the creatures of the earth, why not a few dinos too? Not all were meat eaters or the size of a house. And there were no birds during the time of the dinos either, until much, much later. Birds evolved from certain dinos, which they don't believe in, so they make up history to fit their model of the world, which is downright asinine.

Isaac, I split the topic it's gotten so far off track from the original post. And yes, Fundamentalist Christians and Flat Earthers go together.

Lasers bloom and refract in the atmosphere over long enough distances, so using one over many kilometers (which would be required for the kind of test you're talking about) means you couldn't guarantee it was a perfect straight line. But no matter how powerful a laser you have, you are not going to shine it from Mount Everest to Paris, which you could do on a flat earth.

The Earth is not a perfect sphere, over such a short distance there are too many dips, bumps, and other irregularities to measure a precise curvature. If you want to do it out on the ocean, then you have currents, tidal forces, and waves getting in the way and changing the relative water level, not to mention your two boats or whatever you're using are going to drift on the water and never align perfectly, etc. And all that is assuming that the atmospheric conditions will be perfect for the straightest and narrowest possible laser. You're talking about trying to measure a difference of a few inches over a distance of miles. That is not practical. If you want an easy, practical experiment to prove the Earth is spherical and rotating, try a Foucault pendulum.

Has it?

https://www.metabunk.org/threads/need-d ... rse.11194/

And if the earth is still, why do all the other planets in our solar system, including the sun, spin on their own axis? Why would a God even create such an inconsistant setup for the universe? If there's no need for planets to spin in God's creation, why make all other planets spin in the first place? Entertainment?

First of all, the earth is a world, not a planet. Second of all, there’s no such thing as a solar system. Third of all, God didn’t create planets (See Genesis ch. 1).

By the way tunnelcat, I don’t know that cats (or other animals) like being pets. It’s like cats pretend to like humans but try to get back at them.

So what are all the other planets? God's orrery? Because they do revolve around the sun, or are you so backwards that you believe the sun revolves around the earth pancake? And what about gravity. Gravity is what shapes planets. A flat earth would fold in on itself due to gravitational forces alone.

Sure cats like being pets. Humans created the whole small cat line centuries ago to keep rodents out of our food. They get a warm place to sleep, protection from predators and plenty of food and water. Some stupid humans that let them roam outdoors give them their hunting instinct to exercise, where they sometines lose that human protection and get killed.

By the way, if God created humans in his own image, he/it must be an ugly MF. I think that the human species is one of the ugliest out of all the life on this planet. Hairless skinbags standing on 2 long stilts. The only thing we got was a large brain, that may have saved our butts from the elements/wildlife/weather over time and allowed us to harness nature and build things, but there's no accounting for when that brain becomes stupid as hell.

TC: A lot of human form can be explained by amphibious evolutionary pressure. Don't compare us to land mammals, compare us to marine mammals.

Basically at some point in our evolutionary history being able to swim well and hold your breath was a huge advantage. Things like fur and short legs don't help in the ocean.

Otters and seals have fur and it gives them a big advantage in warmth and friction reduction while swimming. Our skin is not slick, is easily burned and cut and our shape is about as hydrodynamic as a brick. Our nose is only good for keeping water out when it rains on our faces since there's not a lot of odor sensors in there. And chimpanzees, a close cousin, can't even swim. But our shape and hands gives us the distinct advantage to easily use tools and manipulate objects, which we use quite well to destroy the planet and kill each other. On top of that, we're still fugly IMO for something created in the image of a God.

"Apparently cats made cats or rather it's theory that cats domesticated themselves. " Not theory, it's called selective breeding.

As to the flat earther thing, two simple things easily disprove it. Sit on a beach and watch a ship sail away. If earth is flat it will get smaller until it is the size of a dot. If Earth is round the ship will appear to be sinking as it gets further away.
2nd test is get on a plane and fly in a straight line. Do you come to a edge or do you come back to where you started from?

For the first one they'll just waffle a lot about atmospheric conditions and insist that you can still see the ship it you just zoom in further (and when you can't they'll just insist that you don't have a powerful enough telescope)

For the second, they believe the edge is in Antarctica, and according to them, no one is allowed to fly there (even though there are flights that cross it on a regular basis, they just deny that those exist, and anyone who has been on one is accused of being part of the conspiracy).

You're forgetting about atmospheric refraction. Just take a Nikon whatever model camera that people were buying and zoom in and the ship will come right back to you.

As for the airplanes, they don't continue to fly straight because: 1) people might catch on, and 2) they'd eventually crash into the firmament. Some flights are straight lines and they aren't on globe earth. How are you supposed to land a plane on a ball that constantly spins under you? You'd have to keep adjusting and try to land straight on the runway but the earth would keep turning and you'd crash. Flat Earth makes helicopters work the way we see them and it makes vertical take off and landing possible.

Oh brother. You're forgetting the atmosphere is rotating along with the earth, due to friction with the land and water. That's why you see the Trade Winds and weather storms rotating in certain directions, the Coriolis affect. Clockwise in the Northern hemisphere and counterclockwise in the Southern hemisphere. Same with water going down a drain. On a flat earth, none of that would happen.

Actually drains, sinks, and bathtubs are too small for the Coriolis effect to affect them.

That's, true. Local currents in the water will always influence the direction of flow in a small volume of water. If said water volume is perfectly stock still, it does tend to be affected by the Coriolus Effect by a small amount. I experimented with this and found that once the drain is opened, it's at least a 90 out of 100 percent chance that the water will rotate clockwise since I'm in the Northern Hemisphere. That's provided you also don't put your hand in the water and impart any movement in the water when opening the drain. But of course, it can be made to rotate counterclockwise with ease.

Maybe it looks like this below. But as the ocean water drains off the edge and freezes in space to drift off into eternity, where does any new water come from to replace it? And what holds the atmosphere in? A glass dome firmament? Plus, there's no where near enough land mass to create sufficient gravity and hold all of us to that land or hold the water to the bottom. I cannot believe intelligent people actually believe in this stuff. Of course, if they believe in the stories in the Bible, they'll believe anything.

You know that they deny gravity with ridiculous arguments like 'why don't small rocks orbit around mountains' (HINT: They would if they were both in space and the mountain was the most massive nearby thing, but the Earth's gravity makes it insignificant in comparison). Simple equations like F = G(m1*m2/r^2) are impossible for them to comprehend.
