Younger "tech savvy" generation gets scammed more online than old people.

Article:

Short end: The article mostly attributes this to older people taking more precautions as well as being less exposed to the internet as being the core reason for not being scammed as much. It's like saying a society that drives less will not be in as many car accidents. But I feel like it ignores why Gen Z is so trusting...

I think it's more of this whole "walled garden" mentality, where someone naive can feel safe in their provider locked phone and feel like everything on there is going to be safe. Feeling safe on a device is like feeling safe in your car because it had a good Consumer Report rating, when safety has more to do with your driving rather than what make and model your car is. The result is you have Gen Z kids with their new $2000 phones falling prey to phishing messages, because they trust everything in their walled garden. While Boomers on their cheaper phones don't even trust the company they bought it form.

Anyway, not sure what kind of commentary we can get out of this, but I thought since you all are mostly on the older side, you might enjoy this.

I think it's more than that. It's not only the feeling of safety in their walled garden, it's arrogance. They believe that they know more than the luddite old folks and that they can better protect themselves from scammers. They're too comfortable in their assumed knowlege/abilities and ego clouds their judgement.

I've gotten a few scammers good, and the timing was right. Here's a car horn at close range in your ear. I hope you weren't wearing headphones, sucka!

I got into NFTs because an NFT scammer started talking to me. He wanted me to post on his sketchy website and make a $500 payment to mint an NFT. So I sent him a link that was hosted by my webserver and saw he was on an iPhone in Nigeria. I asked him about it and he came clean saying he didn't like to scam people but it's good money for him. I ended up going to OpenSea, which is the big NFT exchange, and making NFTs there and made less than a buck. lol

Bro, I feel like you're the biggest scam victim on this site.

LOL Well the scammers are becoming less lazy about making the scams so they look more and more real, regardless of whatever happens to me.
