My uncle tends to get free parts that he gets from local stores that are closing, and sometimes I get some of them.

I have a gigabit Z390
a i5-8400
some Corsair memory DDR4 3000 2 16 gig sticks
a MSI GTX 1080
an ugly non rated 750 PSU. (I'll most likely ditch this for something rated)
and a 1TB SSD. (although I might want to get a M.2 NVME instead)

I'll have to get a case
a HSF (I like thermalright peerless assassin) (I really hate the idea of WC, even a AIO)

Ya some of these parts are (old (der) ) but still serviceable. (Ya can't beat free )

Ive bench tested and it posts so I'm good there.

I would LOOOVE to hear opinions of favorite cases, favorite HSFs, and ya comments about not using ugly non-rated PSUs

This is what I have come up with so far.

Of course this doesn't even come close to Krom's new build, but it will serve me for what I want it to do...

And yes I still use a ODD.

Also the lack of RGB is very deliberate.

MEM: Corsair Vengeance (2x16GB) 3000MHz DDR4
GPU: Gigabyte 1660 Super 6GB OC
PSU: Segotep 750W 80+ gold
CASE: Cougar MX330-G
SSD: TeamGroup M33 2280 512 GB

Obviously overkill for D3.
I think I should be able to run Hogwarts Legacy at 1080P at least.

I also plan on doing a little more cable managing.
(Still a little messy for my taste but at least everything is routed through correct grommet holes.)

I would get GeForce RTX if I were you. heh... or one of the new Radeon

The 1660 SUPER is another freeby from my uncle. (The 1080 was completely stone dead)

Someday I might get an RTX core, but for now the 1660 will do.

Ive seen quite a few videos on youtube of people running hogwarts legacy just fine on a card like that.
(of course with ray tracing turned off)

So far its working pretty good.

No problem updating BIOS and turning on XMP.

Had a pretty good D3 battle last night on the BOZ server.
(sorry I forgot the other live person that was there. My bad short term memory )

Still some work to do to get data transferred from old POS computer.

EDIT:

I do have one little issue. I was not able to get speaker fill to work on the on board Realtek audio and I really want that.

I wound up getting an external USB DAC that I have (Vantec) running and the software for that DOES have working speaker fill.

However I do want to eventually ditch that and get the on board sound working the way I want it.

I think I found a site that claims you have to set the environment setting for it to work. (not sure about that)

Wow that peerless assassin is overkill for that i5-8400.

I ran cinebench for 30 minutes and the CPU never got above 45 C.

Nice. Lots of headroom if I want to experiment with a little OC.

However, Im more inclined to just leave it and have the processor last for years and years.
