Back from Rock Werchter

Post by Tricord »

I just got back from the gigantic rock festival in Werchter. Over 75,000 people each day, for a total of four days. Two stages with bands playing from midday till 1-2am every day.

Many interesting and international bands, including Metallica, Wu-Tang Clan, Basement Jaxx, The Darkness, The Cure, Pink, Kosheen, N.E.R.D, Moloko, Lenny Kravitz and just so much more.

It was a blast! I'm going back next year ;)

Nah, I don't like Metallica either. I was in the Marquee at that time :) Kosheen (very nice!) and T.Raumschmire (german industrial thrash, only cool the first three songs and then it gets boring).

If you throw mud at Metallica you get lynched by the fans before the security guys get their hands on you, I'm sure :P

I was thinking about you the other day Tri, knowing your into Jazz/keyboards n stuff. Have you heard of Jamie Cullum? He's a young Jazz pianist i saw on telly over here that gave a blast of a show, he really blew me away, and i hated jazz up untill i saw this kid. http://www.jamiecullum.com/

Haven't heard of him, but I checked the website including the samples. Impressive if he got this far on his own at 23 years of age.
However, he hasn't the best voice in the world, so he might get someone to sing his songs for him while he plays. Because he has definitely more potential in the fingers than in the vocal chords.

The first step is to understand the music you're playing. I guess he does (I'm still figuring new things out every day :)). From now on he can only get better.

[Edit]: Wow, he has short fingers. At least, compared to my own :) Most seasoned pianists go wild when they see my hands, with which I can bridge an octave and a half on the keys.

He plays a Yamaha, just like myself :D

TheCops: I saw PJ Harvey allright, but wasn't particularly impressive. The fact that I hadn't really heard of them until now is probably a factor ;) I was way in the back when the Pixies played, so most of it wasn't very clear but the atmosphere was sure there!

By an octave and a half, do you mean an octave and a sixth? ;p In C maj I have an octave and a fourth.

Well, lets see. I can reach from Do to Fa spanning an octave, and I can do so using my thumb and both 4th or 5th finger. So that's an octave and a fifth? Maybe I can reach a sixth if I span enough black keys (they're closer together).
This is on a regular piano, mind. Not on a keyboard with smaller keys ;)
