3d Character : Beast Warrior
So I'm starting my new character.. this is going to be a summer project. So far I have modeled his weapons.
Might be a couple weeks before my next update, I'm going to be roughing the body out.
Comments/crits welcome

Sup guys, thanks for the replies so far..
I don't play WarHammer but I am aware of it and I am using WarHammer artwork for the inspiration behind this character.
My original idea was going to be to create a CG model of the BloodThirster of Khorne. In the end I decided to model my own creation that draws influences from WarHammer instead.
One of my interests is to create a model that requires a rig more complex than a standard biped so that's what I'm going to try for this time around...
More updates in a couple weeks..

Hey guys I am still plugging away on the upper body, I will try to post a shot next week. It is coming along, but it is a big job and going slow.
I'll be a lot happier when the character is built and I can begin decking him out with gear but that is a few weeks off.
Working full-time is cutting into the amount of hours I can pour into this but I'm working on it...more soon

Hi everyone I have made a lot of progress on this model... but for now I'm just going to post the shield.
The head and upper body are completed but they just need some refinement. I would call them about 95% done. Expect a shot of the body from the waist up by this weekend.
Floyd, I'm going to be doing a lot of editing to the axe as it is the weakest part of this model. I will also make the rifts a little smaller.
Thanks again everyone for the replies so far. A big update this weekend

Well I promised a big update this weekend and here it is. Here is the model so far:
Still a pretty long way to go, I'm going to be adding a lot of gear to him and editing some of his weaponry. Let me know what you think so far...
Btw, He has a seam at his waist because the upper and lower body are seperated (due to hardware limitations). Some armor will be covering this seam though. I'll try to post some more in a week.

Here's some newer shots.
Planned changes:
1) Going to move the seam in his stomach down a little farther so its hidden by the belt.
2) Going to edit the weapons a little bit
3) Still need to finish the gauntlet, it's only about half done
4) Going to add bandages on the arm that is holding the battle-axe
5) Will be adding a pouch or some other kind of accessory to his belt.
6) Maybe a couple additional details here or there
Anyway he's mostly done, I think I'm going to try to wrap him up by Friday and start the unwrap this weekend.
Any comments (good or bad) feel free to let me know! Once the unwrap starts there will be NO geometry changes.

I am always amazed at the level of detail you put into these things. I mean, god darn, HTF do you do these things? I can't even create a simple 2d picture.
Can I have some of your talent?
BTW: This is the BEST work I've seen from anyone anywhere. You definetly deserve a job in a game company like Blizzard or BioWare.

Thanks Merlin. Not sure I deserve such high praise but I do appreciate it!
I have been getting pretty good feedback from the various forums I posted to. I'm going to take all the crits and comments into account and make some slight modifications when I try to finish the model this weekend.
I'll post more again soon

http://www.tms.org/pubs/journals/JOM/0211/fig3.gif take a look at that the middle sword has a very neat curve on it, but It might look wierd on a Beast because thats kinda like a human weapon so I donna I just thought something like he can put the sword down into a canister holder thingy Just thinking cause I dont think they are going to just carry there sword around they need a place to store it. SO FAR YOu have ever other thing I could think of on there!! Keep it coming

I'm impressed, as always, with both the quality and speed of your work.
The requisatory bit of constructive criticism: the forearms are wrong. It's a muscular thing. I'm far too unsettled to articulate this properly so that'll have to do.
On an aesthetic note, I would consider lengthening his neck, but moving the head forward, not up. Especially if you plan to hunch him a little bit when complete.

Hi Merlin,
Not sure I understand your question...
I just visualize in my head how I want the guy to look then I go into photoshop and make brushes to paint with. For the skin I will go online and find photo references like elephant skin etc and then edit them in photoshop (color and so forth).
Then with 6 or 7 brushes I'll throw a blank texture on the mesh, import it into Deep Paint and use my source images to create my brushes in Deep Paint.
From there its just a matter of painting and editing...
Hope this helps describe it..
