Ever wonder where your PSU actually came from?

Post by STRESSTEST »

Well, I figured that you may like to know. So here are some pics of a factory in China. There are 3 maybe 4 major factories like this in China. All of your PSUs are made there ;) Dont believe what is on that sticker/package. This IS where it came from. Factories in china are not owned by your Enermax's, Fortron Sources's, Sparkle's, Antec's, PC Power and cooling's. No, they are just a assy plant that was contracted by those names to build PSUs for them. So how it wirks is like this.

1) They do a large production run for lets say Enermax. They do all the models they have ordered and the factories suppliers bring truckloads of ★■◆● to go into the assy... i.e. heatsinks, fans, toroids, fets, ICs, etc. Then the factory goes to work puttin ★■◆● together.

Ever opened a Powmax and noticed that it looked just like an Enermax inside? Well, there ya go.

enjoy the pics, I imagine that you'll notice how the factory owners spare no expense for the employees (Sarcasm) with those great KMart lawn chairs of plastic and the $50 US Dollars a month they get for a wage. Be glad America, you aren't making them.

Everything you buy electronic is made in Asia somewhere cause it's cheaper. If it was made in a 1st world country, you'd pay 10x the price.

Actually that place looks OK to me. $50 is a great wage in China. The factory is clean. Hell - even the soldering guy looks like he has an extractor fan and gas-hood to suck off the poisonous fumes.

I have no problem with any of the photos at all. By the way you described it - I expected a sweatshop environment - which this is clearly NOT. Each worker has their own space - and plenty of it. The place might not look like a billion dollar Fab - but this is a place where PSUs are made.

Get Real Stress - this isn't a bad place at ALL!

If you want to feel bad - do some research about what happens to the tens of thousands of tons of old computer gear the USA dumps on chinese land each year - and what happens to the people who set up villages around the dumping sites, to recycle the variously poisonous stuff that's dumped.

sheesh mobius you ever went to china? or taiwan? prolly not, they are lucky to have the pc gear to salvage through, do you know how many people die each year cuz they have no job, no food, no education? people live in shopping carts for 6-7 months sifting for gold in northern china, only to make 5 -6 US dollars. even in taiwan home of Kingston, ECS, and Asus people live in shanty town made from thin sheets of metal, recent flooding have been killing then off by the hundreds. i used to live in an apt bldg next to a landfill, i was very young, we had to sell scrap metal salvaged from it in order to buy candy, gum, 5 minutes of pac man. Be satisfied guys you are live in a very fortunate place, with a computer. many people all over china don't even have a TV, let alone a computer.

mMobitroll, you moron. This post wasn't a "Rights" motivated post. It was a post to educate all these ppl about the origins of their beloved PSUs. and to educate that just because a PCpower and cooling may be better then an Enermax.. they were still made in the same place.

Personally, if they were paid 25 a year, it would make for me spending less on a PSU.

Oh and BTW, 50 a month doesn't sound as bad to you as it does here since you live in a 2nd world nation.

No matter how you intended it, your tone certainly SUGGESTED that it was a "Rights motivated post".

In any event, that setup doesn't look too bad. It could certainly be worse. I've seen worse right here in my hometown. I do find it ironic that the guts of PSUs are the same stuff with a different label, but that's not too surprising.

This isn't really uncommon. What makes the difference is that the companies who commission these Chinese factories each have their own designs and blueprints for produces, and the Chinese merely assemble them per the specification. So, our product design and the name still makes a difference. Between buying the Toshiba television or the cheap no-name brand, I know who has reliability and QA on their side.

Exactly

This is just to show you where stuff is made. Again, it is not to discount one over another. kyouryuu (I hate that name) is right on the money about the specs and ordering

It's cuz you can't display complex Asian/Chinese/whatever characters on a cheap 80x25 display.
