Guide dog barred for only speaking French

Post by Battlebot »

[quote]TORONTO - A blind Quebec student may sue a Canadian university that denied him entry to English classes because his guide dog responds only to French commands.

Yvan Tessier was turned away from an English immersion course at the University of New Brunswick because he would be forced to give his dog, Pavot, instructions in French.

Students in the course are expected to communicate only in English, at all times, during the intensive five-week course. That includes talking to the dog.

â??I feel a little bit frustrated and sad about the situation,â?

It must be like a game with some people ... let's see what I can dream up today to have a cow about.

Along the same lines ....
Bush's cat India gets Indians enraged

Thiruvananthapuram, July 2 (IANS) Angry youths in this Kerala capital Friday burnt an effigy of US President George W. Bush, not because they are anti-American but because he has named his cat India.

Members of the citizens group Prathikarana Vedi assembled before the Kerala assembly saying that Bush calling his cat India was an insult to the country. Link
He should get a pit bull and name it Pakistan. Friggin' touchy people in this world.

Yeah -- I agree with Bill -- it's definitely the mullet that is the issue here. :P

In all seriousness, that is pretty bad.

Well, it's a 5-week immersion course. If it were a regular intro-level English course then I would agree that it is a ludicrous requirement, but the whole point of an immersion course is that you are forced (usually uncomfortably) to speak the language.

Kinda like living in America, where you are supposedly immersed in, and have to speak "English"? Shame that experiment failed. ;)

Mobius, if most of us had our way, that's how things would be. It's unfortunate that the situation is otherwise.

Yeah. Walking into some places is more like an immersion course in Spanish. Luckily, I've already endured that pain in a classroom. ;)
