Wingman Force 3d problems

Post by now+again27 »

I am having problems making my USB Wingman Force Feedback work with Descent 3. I can't use the force feedback, and there doesn't seem to be an option inside the game for this particular joystick. I have patched the game to the most recent version, but this has not fixed this problem.

Even making the joystick work properly without force feedback would be nice.

Can somebody please shed some light on this problem for me?! :D

If you have the wingman software installed, uninstall it. You don't need it at all. Delete it from your Device Manager and let Windows re-detect it. It'll probably pick it up as a HID compliant device or some such. It'll work just fine, trust me. (I've got a Wingman Strike Force 3D.) Be aware that you will have to re-calibrate your joystick afterwards.

Now that being said, go into the D3 Setup at the launcher and click on the Controllers tab. Click on the "Re-detect Current Joystick" button and uncheck "Enable Force Feedback".

If I remember, XP doesn't allow for force feedback in D3. There's a bug where the option is greyed out, even if your joystick is capable of it. Personally, I couldn't stand my Force 3D; it had a huge deadzone, and recently the thing went completely on the fritz, making random jerks in every direction. I finally scrapped it when I realized that my old 3DPro ran under XP :). But, if that joystick works for you, then by all means go for it. Unfortunately, you won't be able to work the force feedback.
