D3 and Xp Pro

Post by Codger »

I'm not sure I should ask this question here or in the tech forum. So, sorry if I screwed up BUT...Does d3 work in xp pro? Do you have to use the xp compatibility function thing? Any other advice? You see I had it on xp but I was getting these horrendous pings. Never could figure out what the problem was so I just went to my 98se machine and it works fine. But I'm still curious. Another question. What is this "net code" thing I hear pilots bitching about and the reason for not playing d3. I know that lag and ping are a common pain in the arse but what's this net code thing? Yeah, and a final comment. I've been playing d1 and 2 and d3 for years and I don't care what kinda cpu, vid card or monitor ya got, connection is the key. I know, I've got cox cable with terrific download speeds but the upload is speed is poor which from my layman eyes translates into everything that gets tossed at me I catch right in the eye but half the stuff I toss back gets lost in the ether where EVER! Finally, one gent actually admitted he had a T1 and boy was his score high. It just couldn't ALL be because I'm a lousy pilot, I think.

it worked for me.

just install it and it runs.

the netcode is the networking code, the thing that makes multiplayer work.

Descent 3 runs natively in Windows XP.

I bet you it's a hardware issue... or maybe an issue with some other software you have running. Try installing XP on the machine that gets good pings and see if you still get good pings on that machine.
