A PC powersupply with a built-in battery backup AVR unit?
Sure, it'd be bigger, but you could make it longer and take up the top drive bay if nessicary (where the front mounted control panel could be!)

Anyway, just a thought...

CapM - impossible.

Batteries are huge. You can't fit that in the space available for a PSU. Have you seen the size of even the smallest units???

Impratical, batteries are too big, too much EMI from running the unit, and lithium batteries dont put out enough power.

if the market demanded it as much to make significant profit, the industry would have already done it.
btw., dimensions can't be just overridden due to standards to be kept, but the batts could fit in the bottom of a mid-sized or a big case.
i guess you'll have to stick with doing it yourself

There are also full-sized cases which doesn't have PSUs all the way at the top. You could use the upper part of the case for battery holding.

But as far as I'm concerned, all-in-one solutions usually aren't the greatest anyway. Besides, the average consumer probably doesn't care, and most servers seem to be in rackmounts where space is a premium.

I hate it when people tell me I can't do something thats impossible.

It will be done. In fact, I'll build it into my next system.

Actually, I'm not looking for run time here, so I don't need a huge battery, I'm just looking for clean power that doesn't require me to haul along a bulky battery backup unit whenever I want to LAN somewhere other than home.

My UPS is smaller than my college math book, so it wouldnt be too hard to make a smaller version that can fit into maybe a 5.25 bay. Wouldnt give you great uptime, but should be enough for brownouts.

There are Uninteruptible PSUs which would handily fit INSIDE a full tower case - or server case. It'd be a simply matter to router the power cables. You'd have maybe 2 minutes of run-time, to shutdown before the batts expired.

If you have a server case you could EASILY fit my UPS into your case. It would be also possible to do so without even removing the case from the UPS.. 100 minutes of runtime.

So i dont know what H the rest of you are talking about!

for starters
i would hate to lug that case around that would be a killer even with 1 batt and it takes a huge ass trasformer for the inferter.

its jsut pointless to do

inverters don't require transformers warlock.

A UPS in a PC PSU? It's been done, I'm sure I've seen it advertised in the past. I couldn't find any mention of it on the website of the company who originally advertised it but I'll go through their magazine ads and see if I can find you the ad.
