UPS & serial to USB converter
UPS & serial to USB converter
UPS & serial to USB converter
I have purchased a Belkin UPS which uses a serial port to connect to my computer.
I only have 1 serial port which is in use.
I did purchase a "USB to Serial " adapter since I do have two available USB ports.
However, my computer recognized I had new hardware but can not "see" the USB port and says it can't find software to install "USB to serial converter".
I assume I could buy another serial card if I have the space.
Any other suggestions?

What OS are you running? Whats the other serial device? Did the adapter come with any drivers, or is there a website where you could download drivers?
You could always do without the UPS's serial connection, it wont affect its ability to keep it running after the power goes out. The only thing you'll lose (probably) is the ability to shut down your computer automatically.

XP has support for Belkin's communication protocol built-in. The UPS will be recognized and identified in the Power Management control panel, and will not require Bulldog to tell your computer to shut down.
Then again this is probably only true for USB, because there's no way to auto detect devices on Serial.
