WinXP: "Unable to display the user selection dialog"

When trying to share a directory and editing the permissions, I get the error "Unable to display the user selection dialog" (with the text "(null)" beneath it) when trying to add a user.

Google doesn't turn up much for this error. Anyone else ever come across it (and know how to fix it)?

i got that same message on a 98 computer i was working on

its like its trying to talk to a domain when there no domain controler set up at all

its really odd
