KVM switch -- audio?

Can I hear anything from either computer if I do not use the KVM switch with audio?

You'll hear the sounds from the computer that the speakers are hooked up to. If you dont want to get a KVM with audio, just get a cheap set of headphones for the other system.

Or if it's a Windows XP box, just use Remote Desktop and you can forgoe the entire KVM switch. (Depending upon what you use it for I suppose).

If I had speakers plugged into both machines would I hear audio from both.

One machine runs XP, the other 98.

You could get a cheap audio mixer from Radio Shack, and have both computers playing through the same speakers, even at the same time. Depends on your needs, of course.

If a cheap off-the-shelf mixer isn't cheap enough, it's possible to build one with just a couple of resistors plus the connectors and cables.

I just use a male-male 1/8" line from each machine into a female/female-female Y Adaptor. Plug the speakers in the single output. Done. You lose a little volume when both machine are on, but it doesn't make much difference.

I don't mean to sound like a dick, but I want you to re-read that post and THINK about that for a second. The only way for no sound to come out is if nothing was plugged into the speaker jack.
