Going to get another truck for my business.
Chevy 2500HD extended cab 6 liter V8...

Should I get the 4:10 axle or the 3:73?
I will be towing light trailers from time to time but probably under 3000 lbs.

It will be loaded with tools and equipment full time that's why I'm getting the 3/4 ton with heavy suspension.

I would go with 3:73 if you're not towing heavy. You'll get better fuel economy.
Edit- have you considered the diesel?

Thanks, I'll try to find a 3:73...the diesel version is scarce right now and the extra cost upfront might push the truck beyond my budget.
I just bought one for my employee to drive now I want one for me, going from no truck payment to two truck payments hurts.

Will I have a 98 GMC K2500 5.7L Extended Cab w/ an 8' bed ( 8600 GVRW ) with 3.73 gears, it gets 13 mpg highway and 10 mpg city. With toolbox and ladder rack it tips the scales at 6,350lbs, the ladder rack is really hard on the highway mpg. it cut the highway miles by 1.5mpg.

I have a friend that had a 03 Chevy K2500HD 6L, 6' bed w/ 4.10 gears He was getting around 14mpg highway and 12mpg city, but his truck is a daily driver. So it's not loaded down with tools ect. He traded it on a 2500HD with one of those 8.something Liter big blocks (494ci) he doesn't like to talk about fuel economy

I don't think your going to see much difference between the two, if you load it down pretty heavy and do a lot of city driving then the 4.10's might be the better way to go. The Diesel would be the way to go for fuel economy, but the question is, would you put enough miles on it to pay for the $5,000-6,000 cost?

The 4.10's come standard on the 2500HD so save a little money and go with them. Or you could just build your own http://www.chevrolet.com/silverado/#2500hd
