Problems with GetRight

Post by TigerRaptor »

I don't know what is wrong with this program lately. But all most every thing I download gets corrupted. I tired uninstalling and reinstalling and it still acts up. Is there something I need to reset or just find another program to use? Any thing but Gozilla.

Thanks for the help. But now I remember why I stop using the program. Pop-up city.

GetRight is one of the few shareware programs I actually registered, and ever since the 3.x series, it's been all downhill. The author piles on increasing new and useless features, and the general stability of the program is in the proverbial toilet. And, as if it's not bad enough it nags you to register, it goes on after registration to nag you about donating money to the "tip jar." Right.

I don't know of a particularly good replacement, but you might find something useful at http://www.nonags.com.

I second Krom's recommendation.

Hell, I've got an older version that only has banner ads, which are downloaded from a central server. (ads.downloadaccelerator.com) All you have to do is block that via your hosts file and you're golden. (or just deny yourself access to the Ads folder and delete dap.gif from the DAP directory)

Not in the beginning it didn't. That's when I first registered it. Since then, they have been dealing with the evil Gator Corporation (now the Claria Corporation) to install spyware. They now claim they no longer bundle spyware, but once an underhanded software firm, always an underhanded software firm in my book.

I'm still laughing at the concept of a "tip jar" myself.

Here are some alternatives I found:
http://francis.dupont.free.fr/downloadplus/ (GPL'ed open source, free, with segmented downloading, resume, etc)

I use GetRight often and other than the nag screens I have no problems with it.

Wow, I haven't heard of Getright since I used it back in the 3.x days of dial-up. I remember when 4 came out, and what a POS. Looks like they've made their way up to 5 since then. I think Firefox can pause and resume downloads anywho, and I've had IE resume them too (although I don't know what it depends on) so I don't really understand the purpose of using *any* download program, unless you're one of those pricks who hammers sites trying to get 5000 connections to the same download.

Thats been in the mozilla codebase for a long time now. (I'm talking pre-1.0 days) Just don't close Mozilla or it won't resume. ;)

To comment on MD-2389, yeah, I also use a older version (5.0) that only has adds and can be easly blocked.

I tired every recommend program nothing works. I checked WinZip and WinRAR nothing wrong with them. I checked for virus nothing came up. But maybe this will help some. About 3 months ago I reformatted every thing on my hard drive. Well I forgot to back up every thing I download. Before any this happened I was using GetRight version 5.02 with no errors at all. I just reinstalled Unreal Tournament 2003 no more than a week ago, and Iâ??m tiring to download the bonus packs again. But now nothing works whether I get from Fileplanet.com or a mirror site. Now Iâ??m getting the same problem with any thing I download for UT2004. Until now I never had any problems downloading any thing from Fileplanet.com or any other site before. I donâ??t understand what would cause this.
