Post by Davidcline »

I can now see people in multiplayer...I have the level loaded in mission3....I click join but the module fails to initialize. What could be up. I think once I solve this I will be playing again...

Any help.

I searched the net and could only find two web pages that referenced this. Both had to do with macs....my computer is an xp.

any help out there!

When I click on a server on descent.cx it loads the game via the exe. file. I click on the pilot and it sometime says...."error failed to open mn3 file" and then something about line 0. For the most part it simply says, "fail to initialize module." This is all I know. I got the abend2 level from planetdescent and I would guess it would not be corrupt.

Do I need to put something in the command line?

Please help!

okay, well i can tell you based on the failed to open .mn3 file, means that the file is not properly located.....are you sure you are placing the missing file in the Descent3\Missions folder?

other than that, i can only say is that you have bad files.

AFAIK about modules, you will have to ask some of the more experienced programmers, as i know next to nothing about the D3 programming

It sounds to me like this guy's copy of D3 is missing a number of files.

Jesus AceCombat just shut up.

Failed to Initialize game module usually happens when you don't have the MOD (.d3m file) in your netgames directory.

The following MODs come with Descent 3:
Anarchy
Team Anarchy
Capture the Flag
Hoard
Entropy
Monsterball

Some of the other MODs include:
Instareap
Team-Instareap
Team Hoard
Duel
Guardian

Check to see if the server you're trying to join is running a MOD from the first list or the second list. If it's running one from the second list, that means you don't have the MOD. If you join an Anarchy server (for example) and you get that error, that means there's probably something wrong with your Anarchy.d3m file in your netgames directory.

Let us know.

Note that Team Anarchy in the Linux version has a misnamed D3M file. It is originally named tanarchy, and it has to be renamed to join TA games with the Linux version.

I looked for abend2 anarchy on descent.cx and before I tried to join I also looked on my hard drive. I have abend2 in my mission3 directory (there is also a mission and a mission2 directory and abend2 is also in the mission directory. I also have anarchy in my netgame3 directory. Again there is a netgame, and netgame2 directory. Both of these have anarchy files.

Anyway...long story short....it did not work. Now what....still getting message about module.

THANKS ONE AND ALL...after three days and late nights I finally got it! Combination of opening ports in router, opening ports in the network settings, reinstalling the software, dealing with corrupt file, discovering a jewel update that I never even knew I needed....anyway...

I will be playing now. THANKS

time for bed.
