PXO is back up!

Post by *JBOMB* »

OK...its not back up yet...
However what if the 1.5 patch were to include a new connection to a new server other than pxo.net?

Myself and others around here are willing to pay for said server. Ok it doesnt have to be in the 1.5 patch but that would be ideal. I would also be willing to "donate" moneys to the creator of the 1.5 patch for insentive. Wouldnt you?

Create a patch for d3 that redirects the server and chat connection to our new community hosted server.
Now when you open d3...the games list is populated..the chat is back up.

I talked about this with some pxo veterans and the idea seems viable.

Can i get some feedback from the goon squad on this? (that would be you)

is it coming back up?

I dunno is it?...did you read the body of my post?

Did you move my post because you thought i might want the input of the people from the cafe instead of the people from the tech forum?

Did you think i was trying to order a Latte?
Do you think people sipping coffee or more qualified to give me feedback on this than people with their nose deeply embeded into notepad?

This looks moved because "you could".
I think im able to determine which post goes where in this board.

Next time maybe read my post before you jack my shiz bo bo head.

I moved this thread because you were wrong in your estimation of where it should be placed.

If you had asked what kind of requirements hardware wise and bandwidth wise it would take to get the servers back up, it would have stayed.

But you aren't asking that. You are asking for oppinions and ideas about some participation on reviving the servers of old through the use of a patch. This is not technical at all.

I think maybe you should talk to Kevlar (Kevin Bently) as he was working on the patch last I heard.

My choices were to send it here, or send it to the "For the D3 Dev Team" forum. I made the call for the Cafe'

Would it be possible just to do something on our local systems? See how D3 handles pxo, modify (or make & distribute a proggie) to modify the local namefile and assign pxo.net to another server that simulates PXO. D3 would never know the difference, and all it would take is one more line in a namesfile.

That's already the plan.

It is in the patch. There's no need to donate money. =)

What we're wondering is: who's going to host the server originally run by pxo... login, stats, game tracking, chat, etc? Will this not require a little funding?

Just wondering.

Sounds like a great idea.

$5 per year per pilot to keep it running?

really?...hoping is going to do alot hu?

How bout people figure out how to make pxo work again (the point of my thread) instead of doing nothing more than hope?

Suncho informed us that my very subject is being implimented into the 1.5 patch.

I posted to throw around ideas about patching our broken community. How bout i nominate you for non-believer guy.

If it's being implimented into 1.5, why doesn't Kevin come here and ask for our help?

It's been months, maybe even a year since we heard from him and PXO has been down for ages and unless Kevin puts the code for a new addy for PXO in1.5, we are SOL.

I dont know about the 1.5 patch release schedule and or kevins status with the d3 community.

Suncho seems to know something though.

Back on topic how cool would it be to be able to also redirect the auto update to go get the 1.5 patch at say planetdescent. Really plug d3 back in.

I dunno if volition/outrage/current-license-holder would dig it..But it would hook us up :)

JBomb, technically the auto-updater would have to look at DFiles.de to get something from PD, as it's either FilePlanet or DFiles :P (and I don't think the updater would play nice with FP).

ok avder...sorry for being mean...i edited my post to better reflect my mood...seems i was a bit rash...

yeah...yer right..i dont think you could get the auto update to register with FP, have it check your mail and auto respond for the registration, then have it make sure gamespy is the #1 proggy on your computer...also changing all your desktop icons to something having to do with gamespy....

jk..but yer still right..
