fretless basses are awesome, so sleak and smooth... the "mwah" on an unfinished board is orgasmic.. mmmm
jaco wasnt the first, and it is a much debated story but it was said he tore out his frets to try and get a new sound/- closer to that of a DB.

when and how and who did the fret job is much debated, but jaco still owned on a fretless ;)

Mmmmm, fretless. Great for jazz fusion grooves. Although, I do like my 6-string fretted Ibanez. I've had my eye on the Conklin 9-string ones for awhile though. ;)
