Modems don't work this way, to my knowledge. You need something inbetween that acts as a carrier. Now maybe you can use hyperterminal to do this somehow, but I think you need a null modem cable between your serial or parallel ports.

Actually, that probably won't work because Descent needs an SB16 compatibile card, and from my experience with the SBLive, is that newer cards don't work so well in DOS. However,
D1X 1.43 works beautifully, so try that.
