Negative on the cached. I'm riding an empty OC3 pipe. I downloaded it again after I posted that pic and got 3.2meg/sec. Here's another shot of 2.8megs/sec.

I assure you, there is no caching going on.

woodchip: This is meant for network admins to have handy incase they have to re-load a system. It'll save them ALOT of update downloading since its a comprehensive service pack (meaning it has all updates upto that point). Microsoft releases two versions of a service pack. A network installer (this one) or a net installer (only downloads what you actually need). Windows Update only has the net installer because the average user wouldn't download a two hundred something MB file vs. a few kB file that installs everything for them.

Trust me, this is the one you want. It doesn't require a net connection to install, which is very good if you're just re-installing XP.

Duper: Is this before, or after they get stuck in the sail? ;)

For those that use the cracked uxtheme.dll to use themes:

http://www.neowin.net/comments.php?cate ... e&id=23207

Using the cracked dll that you used with original release XP or XP SP1 will cause rundll to crash in XP SP2 when applying any themes.

My only beef is that Windows Update v5 is b0rked. It loads just fine, its just that the scanning engine doesn't work. It'll give a bloated version of the 404 error message after a second of scanning my box. Doesn't matter if auto-update is on or off, doesn't matter if Kerio is enabled/disabled/installed/uninstalled. Windows firewall is OFF (because Kerio is far superior in every way). Doesn't matter if I use the custom or express scanning engine. Can't use v4 because it auto-forwards to v5 immediately.

If that were an issue, then it wouldn't load at all.

Maybe the %SystemRoot%\WindowsUpdate.log file has some info ? Try the M$ community (WU).

It seems that msxml3.dll got un-registered by SP2.
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
That solved the problem.

Anyone else notice that the Windows load screen now just says "Windows XP" (instead of Windows XP Home, Pro, etc.)? So far I've installed this on every version of XP (Home, Pro, Tablet, Media Center) and they all do it.

Think about this for a moment.... are you done...?

what did you download.. SP2 for a specific version... or a ALL in one IT/DEV version??

I'll let you answer your own question now that the light is ON!

If you are having issues with windows update then it is your configuration of your machine(s) only, check your firewall/antivirus, and or popup blocker, adaware/spybot/bho blocker...some how you are blocking ActiveX and the update of the .dll file from windowsupdate.microsoft.com or go.microsoft.com

Ok I have a stupid question for you all.

Do you need to sliptream SP1 first and then SP2 or do you only need to do SP2 if you want a Slipstreamed CD that does the whole works for you when you install it?

I've nevered slipstreamed a cd before but want to do it now - first time right. I'm asking this because of the screenshots of the autostream program said in the CD build part - 5.1.2600.1106 (SP1).

Thanks

if you downloaded the IT version of SP2 then just use that version with your orginal version of your windows XP cd to slipstream

The IT SPK2 has all the patches included since the ORGINAL release of Windows XP

IOW : ALL IN ONE

Slipstreaming works by replacing the CAB files on the CD with updated ones. So whether you use an original XP CD ("XP Gold") or an XP CD with SP1 integrated, it doesn't matter since all the CAB files get replaced anyway.
