Any of you all have any CD-R media prefs?
I usually like TDK and verabatim, but it looks like Fuji is easy to find in the higher speeds. Fuji ok?
Do you all have any error stories?
In the old days, burners were very choosy about media. Is that getting better?
I have a burner that can do 52x and lot of unused 16x CDRs around too.
If you have DVD-R advice, that's cool too.

I do have this funny story though ... one time I was making a music CD, and while it was buring it sed "CD Write Erorr, continuing". So I'm like "huh wtf ok whatever" and it finishes. I pput it in my CD player and it started playing ... it was all good ... it got to track 2 and UHOH this really horrible high pitched LOUD sound came out of my speakers to I had to turn off the sterio and get rid of the CD and make another copy hehe

yuden is the best imo. second is ritek/ridata. i use ridata because yuden is hard to find sometimes. i've burned 57 dvd's and no coasters yet from the ridatas. i wouldnt buy sony, memorex, fuji, etc because they just repackage and alot of times they can be really crappy discs. sometimes you'll find a pot of gold, but its risky.
newegg had 100 packs of ridata dvd's for 30 bucks last week (i posted it in the marketplace), something like that might still be available.
now to contradict myself, i use memorex cd-r's and have been happy with them mostly. 2 coasters ever, and some 20 or so where i had to reburn an audio cd becuase of various oddities. and ive probably burned some 300-odd cd-r's in the years ive been using them - thats not too bad really. i buy em though because they're literally like 5 cents a disc, so when they stop working ideally i just burn another copy without a second thought. dvd's are considerably more expensive though, so i go for the quality there.
memorex cd-r's have worked in my plextor dvd writer, both of my lite-on cdrw's and my samsung that i've had. all at rated speeds or slower. it varies by spindle. ridata dvd's are marked 4x but i burn them without problems at 8x (so far). i bought a 50 disc spindle and got no coasters, all worked with 8x, and a few from a new 100 disc spindle that are so far so good. only tried this with a plextor p780a though, ive never owned another dvd writer.
as far as format, i prefer dvd+r over dvd-r but it depends on what the purpose of the discs are. backup xbox/ps2 games? dvd-r. movies? dvd+r. imo anyway. consoles read -r's better and +r's tend to work in more standalone dvd players than -r's do in my experience. with data i dont think it really matters, just go with whats a little cheaper (i think its +r right now)

A while back I bought 2 100packs of unbranded CD-Rs and have maybe one coaster out of 75 or so (with my Lite On 52x burner running at 48x for game/program CDs, or 16x for audio CDs). I dont have much experience with DVDs but I bought a 50pack of Legacy DVD-Rs and have made about 10 discs so far with no problems.
I havent had much problem with any CDR media that I've tried (Memorex, Staples, unbranded, TDK, others). A good quality burner helps some, I'm sure.

Holy Crap, DVD-R versus DVD+R? I'll go read up on it. I swear these standards consortiums are making this waaay more complex than it needs to be.
