New Ladder needs ideas/pilots
hey guys.. Merl here. I'm a php/mysql guy now so I'm making a d1/d2 ladder with trying to be what the IDL used to be, only exactly what everyone wants, and features can be added on the fly by a suggestion or simple vote. Anyhow, i'm not here to make it look sexy, i'm here to foster d1/d2 competition old school style... no 24 hour limit, we can do what we want with it, easy to program and manage. I want the limited amount of d1/d2 guys to be able to play as often.
Features:
Pilot Profiles
Ladder Ranking
Streaks/etc/etc/etc stats
Level database - people actually SELECT the level they played, so we can track stats and trends for every user and level
*** level database needs help. Go here to enter d1 or d2 level names, make sure you don't do any duplicates.
https://students.washington.edu/tennis/ ... levels.php <--- enter D1 levels
https://students.washington.edu/tennis/ ... levels.php <---- enter d2 levels
also, when people signup (for their home levels) and submit a match, they can add a level if its not on the site.
I'll officially open it up for signup probably on monday or so!
have fun in the mines!
Remember, this is founded by a d1/d2 fanatic (well really d1 but d2 is decent and lots of people/rangers play it now), and it's for like-minded people that love competition.
Peace. You can always reach me at toddkins on AIM.

D1x 1.42 or 1.43 works well with XP. Just make sure that you change the compatability mode to 98/ME or 95. Also on mine, it seemed to help "disabling visual themes" and "turn off advanced text services for this program." also in the compatibitly area.
I do mine in "run in normal window" and go to full screen in the game under options although the game runs fine in a window. my Desktop res is 1280x1024 on a 19" CRT.
Aslo, my D1x.ini file contains this. You DO NOT use a bat file for D1x. the ".ini" serves this purpose.
-pps 6
-joypolled
-shortpackets
-noredundancy
-playermessages
-cockpit 2
-gl_mipmap
-notitles
-gl_reticle 0
-maxfps 82
-font600
-1024x768
-joypolled
-gl_intensity4_ok 0
-gl_texminfilt GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_NEAREST
The various text files that come in the Zip have more of the GL extentions and what is best.
hrm .. maybe a FAQ or help should be written up for Dx1 1.43 should be written up. There are a couple different variations and not all work the same on every puter.

I guess if you want we could setup some IRC channel. The main thing is we'll gather people's AIM/msn/etc/etc to really try to make match making easy. I'm also thinking about programming a little client that runs in your 98/xp system tray and you click it to one color to mean you are on and would play, and another to mean you're away. The system lets you know when another person is online and wants to player.

Not really. The main problem is the fact that the Win9x core cannot manage more than 512MB of memory. Last I heard, it has problems if the machine has more than that. So what do those of us who DO have more memory do?Merl wrote: If you don't have win98, make a partition with 1 gig of space and install win98 and d1x/d2. it's that simple.
